I know you did enough this season to have met your targets, and any other year would have got your reward. I know your players loved Redknapp.
Only some of our players loved him and only some of our fans. You just confirm your lack of knowledge.
So why wouldn't he have been happy with the three year deal we offered him in February? Oh, that's right, signing it would have affected his chances of becoming England manager. Ferguson and Wenger have rolling one year contracts, and they don't publicly complain about it, nor do they hire shyster agents to get themselves a better deal. Your definition of "in peace" is different to ours. Harry wasn't solely sacked for our failure to play in the Champions League despite qualifying to play in the Champions League. He was sacked because of his public conduct that had unsettled the players, be it making advances for the England job or comments that Modric or Bale would likely be sold in the summer and he had no control over it. He was sacked because our last two finishes of fifth and fourth were at least one place lower than the one we should have finished in, because both seasons saw late season slumps entirely because of his complete inability to use the squad effectively. Most of all, he was sacked for trying to use us as a stepping stone one minute, then trying to dictate terms to stay the next. No, he should not sue the club, because he has no grounds to claim unfair dismissal, let alone constructive dismissal. As you brought it up, that means you expect Dalglish to sue your club for similar reasons. If you don't, it's remarkably unwise say other former managers should because the double standard will be pointed out. With the following exceptions: Darren Bent, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Niko Kranjcar, Sebasien Bassong, Giovani Dos Santos, Steven Pienaar, Huerelho Gomes.
He did not want Chelsea to win the CL thereby eliminating Spurs! Are you mad?! Here's his full quote: "I'll be rooting for Chelsea [against Barcelona]," said Redknapp. "From our point of view, if we keep Chelsea in it and they've got a Champions League final to prepare for as well [as the Premier League and the FA Cup final], then they've got a lot on their plate, haven't they? "I think they can beat Barcelona. They were fortunate the other night and defended with their lives but you wouldn't put it past Chelsea scoring in Barcelona. Barça are open to concede. If Chelsea get an away goal, then it's game on. But if they beat Barcelona, I still couldn't see them beating Real Madrid. "I think Real will beat Bayern but even if they [Chelsea] were to play Bayern, that would be a difficult game with Bayern being at home in Munich. So I still couldn't see them winning it. But I'd like them to be in it because they'd surely have to have one eye on the final." Now in your link there's the sentence that I've not seen before: "I want to see an English team win it anyway and I think they can do it." Which seems weird cos it seems to contradict all the other things he was saying at the time. Before the final (when teams tend to win the actual competition): Spurs boss Redknapp said: ‘I’d be a liar if I said I want Chelsea to win the Champions League. I want Bayern to win it, and I hope they do, for all Spurs fans.’ So to clarify - when it came to the point where Chelsea could win it he categorically said that he did not want them to win it.
They did. They're a fickle lot though, turning on their saviours who bailed them out and put in a significant investment to refresh the squad.
I can see his limitations just fine, I think. But guess what? Roberto Martinez, David Moyes, AVB, Jurgen Klinsmann all have limitations too. Just cos someone's got faults does not mean that they are not the right person for the job. Harry has proven that even with his faults he can achieve more than any other manager at Spurs in years and years and years. Over to A N Other now...Hope he's faultless!
This What I've been harping on about for so long. Yes Harry has done a great job and I've felt most happy as a spurs fan in a long time while he's been our manager (and that's saying a lot but he was given the chance to extend his contract but didn't take them. This clearly shows he has learned nothing and believes he has done nothing wrong or is responsable in any way for the way we fell off the pace after Feb. Levy was clearly testing Harry's 'love for the club' he kept saying recently while in contract talks with the 12 month contract. Levy is no mug. At the end of the day, Harry showed his hand and it backfired.
Harry Redknapp should sue your club. Sacking a top manager like this is disgraceful. With out Redknapp you would be mid table, with no Bale, Modric, Lennon or Van Der Vaart. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top manager with, what was it, 1 FA Cup ? Good manager, but let's not exaggerate. As for your last statement, are you for real? Modric, Bale and Lennon were already at the club before Redknapp and there's no reason they won't be after. As for van der Vaart, that was Levy's doing. Ridiculous - anyone would think Harry Redknapp is the messiah
So you're sure that Moyes would have got us a ten-point lead to start with? Oh - that's just a given, right? Spurs always have ten-point leads in third come february. A manager should only be judged on how they deal with that lead that magiced itself out of thin air. Quite a list of essential players there. Yes it's unfortunate that fringe players were not kept more happy but this is true at every team. Frankly Darren ****ing Bent getting upset is no skin off my nose whatsoever. And my heart does not bleed that Pavlyuchenko's ****eness at playing in the EPL where you need to work, win headers, have a first touch resulted in him being a little bit unhappy with his £40k a week (or whatever) pay cheque. If Harry upset GDS or Krancjar at the expense of making VDV or Modric or Lennon happy then so be it.
In fairness none of these names actually got close to our target objective (top 4), with exception of Rafa who most consider should of stayed! In addition to this you are one to talk: Lets use the Names: Mourinho,Ancelottii, Grant to name a few! All won or came close to winning something: all sacked for "not performing". A Chelsea fan really shouldn't have written that statement. This is a good post; I do understand that there was a reason for Harry's sacking. Thus is was not done Unfairly as others are suggesting. HOWEVER the question is: Do you think you can improve on him? Most people consider Redknapp a world class manager and a guy who did a class job this year; could you improve on this with say a manager like Martinez? (Please note when we were linked with Martinez I had my face in my hands). Also that neutrals always considered Harry to have got more than possible out of your side, especially at the beginning of the season when you were strong title contenders (Hence why he was linked with the England Job). Good luck next year anyways, I hope we can challenge you for a place in the top 4!
harry does what it says on harry's tin. he gets you out of relegation woes, introduces some geezer dynamics, gets the players onside and raised us to where harry could.. BUT.. his CV is empty (apart from one fa cup- which we should have had) and the teams 2 slumps show he could not introduce what the "better" teams have--stamina, bottle and resourcefulness when things start going south. he did not have the extra talent to get us over that hump. we should have had CL for 3 years running. he is dodgy legally and he is naive in the world of football commerce and he is 65. i loved him at the club but someone with more nous, better tactics and a bit more class has to come in if we are going to get another crack at the CL. modric, vdv...gone bale..who knows. we still got half a decent nucleus, but it will be a weaker one and newby has got his work cut out. what is the point of Moyes. nah....
And how did Harry deal with that lead? he threw it away in the space of four games. Tell me, which gets you more points: * Scoring goals from set pieces, or sending every free kick or corner directly to the first defender's headed clearance * Being able to defend an opposition set piece, or being unable to defend an opposition set piece * Being able to shut up shop when it matters, or being unable to hang onto leads We may have had a ten point lead, but it could have been more - we could have come away from the Etihad with a point, we should have been able to hold onto a 2-0 lead until half time at the Emirates, we got caught napping twice at St James' Park. We could have had three more points at least based on those three games, and that would have secured third place and kept Harry in his job. Hell, if we could defend corners we would've been two points better off just based on our draw with Wolves. What limited thinking - if Modric, Van Der Vaart, Bale or Lennon are out with a long-term injury, who do you play? You play Kranjcar, you play Pienaar - no, wait, we loaned him to Everton - you play the other 14 players in the squad. Harry's idea of using the squad was to bring on Defoe for 20-30 minutes, despite the fact he doesn't mesh with Adebayor or VDV (something that Pav, even with his suspect workrate, did) I can't help but notice you sidestepped Bassong, and we all know why - Dawson was ruled out for the season, King and Gallas always have injury problems so can't be relied on, so Bassong (who was part of an effective defensive partnership with Dawson two seasons prior) is loaned out and replaced him with Ryan Nelsen...who never played. Are you really happy that King and Gallas were kept happy by this? If so, I am begging you not to send your CV to the club.
How did Harry deal with the lead? Yes - that's my point. I admit - not too well. But why focus just on that? Who GOT us the kind of lead that I've never seen before in my lifetime? All this talk about happy fringe players etc: Look - anything you say about whether players were happy or whatever has to boil down to one thing: Did the team perform? Did Spurs have good results on the pitch? Cos compared to that I could not give a monkey's how GDS feels. And the fact is that harry provided the best EPL results we've ever had. So his methods (though flawed cos, guess what - he's human) must work pretty well. I didn't sidestep anyone - I just don't want to go on too much. My point is simple: Harry has faults, we all know this. BUT Harry has delivered better results than any other manager for thirty years. And if you say "But he had a better team" well, er - he built a fair part of that team. And much as I love Martin Jol it's just not true to say that he did what he did with a fraction of what harry has had. Jol had possibly the best strike partnership in the league at the time. And loads and loads of money was spent on players when he was here - not players he chose necessarily but it's not like he was starved of resources. Still - if you're convinced that Moyes will do a better job I guess the proof of that delicious pudding will be in the eating. 3rd and a cup here we come!
You can argue all you want with Moyes vs Redknapp but the truth is that unless you can go back in time and install Moyes last summer you will never know who would've been better. If Moyes gets 3rd and a cup does that make him better? Maybe Redknapp would've done the same. If Moyes finishes 7th who is to say Redknapp would've done better?
Could he continue? - With what I know now, to put it in Harry terms "It would have been difficult". If you see him hobbling its because he's shot himself in both feet.
Harry must be gutted he misses the chance to take you into battle against Athletico Kebab etc on Thursday nights. But a serious question for Spurs fans; do you think he would be gone if you'd qualified for the CL?
