Think about it lads. This site has the most informed opinion of football of all of them so could Harry really have continued? After all the court and England fiasco and failing twice in succession to get to the CL? Imagine what next season would have been like with Harry here. What other finger in pie stuff and how much more uncertainty and conjecture would there have been? A lot of the members on this site have said Harry has taken us as far as he can so this is totally the right decision. If you adopt the philosophy that "Everything which happens happens for the best" then it makes sense and cushions the blow.
Bale,Modric etc didn't leave when Ramos was booted out did they so there's no reason to think that there'll be a mass exodus now that Harry has gone. Harry faded as he always does proven by 2 failures to reach the CL. Grief we had a 10 point cushion and lost it,sheer bloody incompetence. He would not have moved us any further on,that's the job of the next man who has a good set up to start with. Harry has been offered big dosh in the Gulf which was yet another distraction,so I cannot agree with you. Luke, his back up like Jordan etc are rubbish so they can move on and we've lost nothing.
Failing twice to get the CL? We practically beatified Jol for nearly getting us a top four finish. Harry did it twice. Sorry - but since when did Spurs fans expect us to qualify for the CL season after season? Oh - that's right. Once Harry got us there. Imagine what next season would have been like? Oh no! Not more gossip and bollocks on forums and blogs! If only the game of football took place on a pitch! If only it had something to do with grass and players and a ball. IF Harry has taken us as far as he can then what the goddamn hell is wrong with regular CL places, the extra revenue it brings, the revenue it takes off of Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal and the fact that all that leads to a much-increased liklihood that Spurs can compete for the best players and get some silverwear. Honestly - were people really SO pissed off that we didn't win the league under Harry? I suspect that a lot of people will now, faced with the actual reality of a managerial change, not look with such stark, sure confidence at someone like Martinez as the man to "take Spurs up to the next level" (By which I can only assume they mean genuine title challengers).
As I have said before To Dare is to do, does not mean settling for fourth place and a bit part in the CL. We have to aim for the top even if that means failure. That's the Bill Nich philosophy. Not Harry's we are punching above our weight, we can't compete with Man C, Man U, Chelsea we just don't have their money. Bollocks to that philosophy, we go for it! We might succeed or we might fail but settling for also ran's is not what Spurs are about.
He had to go The club stood by him during his trial and in return they got disloyalty, putting players out of position, endless self serving speeches that sometimes contradicted each other, talk about letting Modric leave, throwing away a 10 point lead and then saying he wanted Chelsea to win the CL even though that meant one less CL place
Jol finished twice with a squad that isn't as good as the one we have now, and one of the great "What If...?" questions is what would have happened if the squad didn't all have food poisoning for the final day of the season - any other fixture we could have delayed due to illness, but FA and Premier League rules state every club must play their 38th fixture at the same time, even though for the majority of clubs it's a dead rubber. People aren't pissed off that we didn't win the league under Harry - people are pissed off that he threw away Champions League qualification because of his limitations in 2011 and his ego in 2012.
Liverpool fan in peace; You guys were in absolute Shambles when Ramos was at your helm (as bad, if not worse than us under Hodgson). Then Redknapp came in and made you top 4 contenders while single handily crushing our Liverpool side to get there. No offense, but for me you have just lost your edge; and I personally feel pretty relieved as a Liverpool fan. In my personal opinion you have made a shocking SHOCKING decision.
Who mentioned also-rans? I was talking about winning silverwear! And you do that by having a better team than your rivals. And you do that with money 99% of the time. And more money for us, with less money for them means you can build a team who can surpass Arsenal, Liverpool etc. If only people did not equate "aiming high" with throwing away improvements that have been made. As if the only way of continuing improvements, the only way to try to improve, is to sack the boss and look for someone new. Cos we all know that works, don't we? We might succeed we might fail indeed. I remember the old days all of 3 years ago when finishing 4th WAS succeeding. Apparently not any more. Apparently we should be winning the league. Apparently Spurs are a crap team now with no hope of winning a trophy cos of the mess that Harry has left us in. Sorry but this is the best Spurs team in decades in the best league positions it's been in for decades, with the best chance of winning something in decades (two league cups and an FA Cup in thirty years if you recall). And apparently harry was not doing a good enough job. What total arse-water. I'm feeling quite pissed off right now. Cos I know that the likelihood of Spurs improving after a managerial change is what it has always been - abut 10-20%. And all those who have talked about Martinez and Jol and Klinsmann and all that pie in the sky crap will now very likely get a very cold, very hard wake-up call. "To Dare Is To Do" indeed. And if excitement and intrigue in the close season is what you're after then daring and doing must be great for you right now. But I'm more concerned with the future of a very, very good Spurs team which is now in jeopardy. Cos I want the daring and the doing to take place on the pitch.
Could Harry have continued? Yes, he could've signed the three year contract we offered him in February, or the one year extension we offered to his existing deal we offered last week.
Good luck next season though; I personally felt they should of let you guys in the Champions league due to the acceptance of Everton those years ago when we won it. But there we go! As result of Chelsea win I presume that was what costed Redknapp his job? Still seems strange to me.
There is no argument lenny, this is the best squad we have had for years and thanks to Harry for his part in assembling it. That does not mean he is the best man to use it. You seem unable to see the severe limitations of Redknapp, limitations that IMO meant that this was it with him and this squad this is as good as it will get. I saw no evidence that the team were improving and learning as the season progressed, in fact I saw the opposite. Bale becoming ineffective as he roamed the pitch, no direction from the manager as games unfolded to our disadvantage. He was found out IMO his limitations were exposed. On top of all that we were treated to a constant media campaign, the Harry road show, conducted by himself. We move on.
Let's not forget either that Harry's last dozen games or so, were worse than the Ramos run he was so keen to remind us of. Jol with all his limitations performed much better during his time with a poorer squad than Harry.
We do keep falling foul of rulings that make no sense - we had to play the final game of 2005/6 despite most of the squad suffering from food poisoning because FA/Premier League rules dictate that, whilst any other league fixture can be delayed due to illness in the squad, the final fixtures must all be played at the exact same time, even though the 38th game is a dead rubber to 90% of the teams playing it.
Why should he? Do you know the ins and outs of the contract? Do you sign contracts you're not happy with? You don't know why he didn't sign, he might've asked for more financial backing from the club and wanted it written into the contract.
Liverpool fan in peace. Harry Redknapp only failed to get Champions League because of bizarre and rare circumstances. He finished in the top 4. Any other year that wold have been enough. If Chelsea hadnt won the Champions League you would be saying how great a manager he was and giving him an extra large transfer budget. But instead he has been sacked because of some thing he had no control over. Harry Redknapp should sue your club. Sacking a top manager like this is disgraceful. With out Redknapp you would be mid table, with no Bale, Modric, Lennon or Van Der Vaart. I dont understand why you dont have any 'Levy out' threads here.
