It's been reported that Whitbread has avoided a driving ban due to the 'hardship' of finding a new club. Article also refers to the fact that he earned 'anywhere between £4,000 and £7,000 per week.' This suggests to me that the reason he was released was more down to the fact that he is injury prone than money as the wage cap is roughly £15k. However, it could still be that there was effectively a glass roof above Whitbread that he couldn't break through as the club weren't willing to increase the wages of an injury prone player.

i've heard from a number of people that he wanted way too much money. whether that was above our ceiling i don't know but his injury record means that we couldn't afford to give him top dollar, especially as he wasn't even guaranteed first team football. would you pay him for example £12k a week? that would eat up a lot of money for a possible reserve. as for the topic, i think its a disgrace what whitbread is getting away with.
 
Didn't the same outcome happen to a Toon player recently, on 25K per week, claimed couldn't afford a chauffeur and therefore didn't get a ban, FFS no wonder these pampered pricks think they're above ordinary humans
 
I find this particularly unjust myself as due to recent health problems I am banned from driving for a year, for something that was genuinely out of my control. Bit I know it's for the best because if the condition comes u again while I'm behind the wheel I could potentially end up killing myself or worse.

I think it's a disgrace that people who break the law can avoid a ban while I have no choice.
 
Even if I was looking for an employer like Whitbread is I still wouldn't be allowed to drive. That's how messed up it is!
 
What I find hilarious is he's effectively made himself unemployed by wanting too much money - What a tool!
 
I don't get why famous people get away with driving bans and any normal person who drives too fast gets penalised, it should be fair that both are treated the same and that Whitbread and any other footballer should be fined and banned from driving. Even if it means someone driving him to training when he gets a new club.
