in his prime he was world class and scored of the greatest United goals i've ever seen, to me we will never see a player like him again, as a welshman, he has proudly represented his country and Manchester United as well, he's got another year in him in my opinion, its a shame he never played a world cup for Wales, the world has missed out on seeing him on a big stage.
He played in a few Champions League finals to be fair so hes certainly been seen on the world stage and around 1.2billion tune into United games so hes been seen, make not mistake. He also cared more about United than Wales if we are honest. Refused to play a friendly for what? 8 years or something?
As a fellow Welshman, I'll disagree with you here matth. He is a great player and I don't think anyone can argue against that, however as a Wales fan I am disappointed with the lack of importance he placed on playing for his country. You could always tell that he never really tried and spent more time trying to not get injured than getting stuck in and giving his all.
To be fair, he did struggled with hastring injiuries while he played for us, but i can understand your point.
You could maybe look at it a bit more objectively. Yes, he missed friendlies. They did though tend to be pointless firiendlies like Qatar away mid week that he pulled out of though as Wales do not get lucrative friendlies against top, local opposition so had to go further afield. Any player with dodgy hamstrings is not going to be helped by sitting on planes to far flung desitinations but, I agree, he could have probably played more. I think you'll find he never missed a competitive fixture though and always gave his all and was commited.
See that's what I'm not sure about. Yes he was probably our best player most games, but even then he didn't seem to show the form he was in playing for Man Utd at the same points in time. I respect and love any player who pulls on our national shirt and this includes Giggs, but I just had that feeling that he was only giving 90 or 95% for Wales. Maybe it's just me.
Still not the greatest Welsh footballer. John Charles head and shoulders above, on and off the field.
The thing is, i don't really give a toss what a footballer gets up to in his private life but when some one mentions Giggs's personal life and they support a team who has players who have had affairs, then it is wise to remind them about their own players conduct off the pitch.
