Getting past the group stage would be a success as far as I'm concerned, given the circumstance in which he has taken the role.
Hopefully he'll clear the dead wood senior players out completely after this tournament and build the next team with youth as opposed to reputation.
Given time I feel he could be relatively successful.

Hope He Does Well. All Press against Him. As for Me, He Speaks a lot of Sense. Did not want Wide Boy Redknapp. True Genius He is. He Even Admits He can not Operate a Fax Machine.

Depends how you define a success? For this tournament getting out of the group is a success. However not much coming through so long term Q Finals will be deemed a success.

dont think england or france will trouble spain, italy or germany in this compitition but hodgson was the right choice before redknapp anyway. harry was not approached but his rich dog rosie was...

He could be a success if the press lets him be and accepts he has had to contend with the worst 'preparation' imaginable for a major tournament. If they genuinely accept that expectations must be lowered for this tournmanet and dont castigate him if england dont make it out of the group, then allow him the opportunity to build on the foundations for the world cup in 2014, then he could become a real success.

If the press and the public do their usual of absolutely slaughtering him when surprise surprise england lose to a team with well rested players who have played together for longer, are technically superior and whos manager isnt petrified of putting a foot out of line and appearing in the morning paper with a dartsboard arond his head, then he will go on the pile along with all the other perfectly decent managers who couldnt make the impossible job work.

Of course getting out the group isn't a success.

We're up against Ukraine and Sweden for ****s sake.

Ukraine have Andriy ****ing Voronin as one of their star players, and Sweden lost to bloody Ukraine.

Seems a bit disrespectful to Ukraine, I thought they played very well last night. The match was far more entertaining and end to end than the England game was anyway.

Glesga, I think Sweden tried their hardest to make Ukraine look good. Sweden were a one man team last night with a piss poor defence.

I'm not going to argue that Sweden weren't **** last night, but you still have to hand it to Ukraine, they were on home turf and looked pretty comfortable. I really liked the guts of going for such an attacking formation too.

The next game will probably tell us a lot, now the teams have settled and got rid of the first game jitters, but honestly I think Ukraine could nick another win and get out of that group.

The fixtures favour England to grab top spot IMO. A healthy win against Sweden on Friday coupled with an unpredictable France-Ukraine result should see us going into the final round of matches in pole position. From there, we have everything in our own hands for the Ukraine game!
