Call me old fashioned but I would like to keep a British like spine of the team. The fact that the 'senior players' Nolan, Barton, Harper & Smith are all English and know the English game and know how passionate we are, for me has been a key role in the team spirit we have.

Now I know you have the Tiote's, Coloccini's etc that have taken to the team spirit and I am not opposed to having foreigners in but think it would be a good idea not to flood the team with foreigners this summer. Thoughts?

You must remember our squad already has one of the highest English percentage of players in the league, and I would argue a lot of our best players are foreign; Tiote, Colo and Enrique immediately spring to mind. Add to that that a young english player's value is more than doubled in England, the only reason being that he is English, and foreign players are a lot better value. I cant think of a lot of English players who are good enough for us but who will not cost a hugely inflated fee.

Agree, and as I say I would not be dead against signing foreigners but I wouldn't like to see the team flooded. As I say anyway I have a pretty old fashioned view of things.

I would like to see us go in for Matt Jarvis, although his England cap and rising reputation would, as you say, elevate his price. My knowledge of players outside the British leagues is poor other than the usual anyway.

Having preached all that I must say that I am on the Chris Samba band wagon. Him and a target man (regardless of nationality) are a must.

Only Englishman I can see coming is Reo-Coker as he is on a free. The rest will probably be youngsters coming through the youths or something along those lines.

Agree with all of that, Jarvis would be good for under 10mil, as would Adam Johnson if City continue to spend at their current rate, and they wont need the money, or let him go to a rival. Cant think of a lot of other good English players who would be value for money though, unless a side gets relegated and has to sell cut price?

I can't see us getting Johnson if I'm honest, I think they will get Champs League next season meaning they will need a fair sized squad and can't imagine Johnson would want to miss that.

If West Brom go Chris Brunt might be a shout, should be relatively cheap. A year ago I would have said Dorrens although looks like he could be one of those players who are great in Championship but struggle in the Prem. Can't think of anyone from Wigan I would want, mebbes McCarthur/McCarthy whichever one is the better as back up.

What do you think about this Gradel at Leeds if they don't go up? I was doubtful earlier in the season when he had his hissy fit and got sent off (might have been last season) but looks like he's had a strong season. Correct me if I'm wrong but believe he has scored close to as many goals as Carrol got last season

I like the looks of Rodagella and Moses, although I'm not sure they'll be cheap. N'Zog I could take back but he wouldn't really be needed at this current stage and his attitude wouldn't be welcomed. McCarthy is a decent player, Figueroa would be excellent as cover/competition for Jose and Di Santo may not be a goalscorer but he looks promising.

The fee is believed to be in the excess on £1million rising to a further £2million depending on appearances, goals and performances. The actual transfer of Franco Di Santo went through with the Premier League and became official with just two minutes remaining of the summer transfer window.

Surely worth a punt if they get relegated?

Possibley 2m with add ons raising to 5m might tempt them. Sure he's nowhere near the finished article but I like something about him.

Lukaku wud be an awsum signing

Maybe he will do a Ben Arfa and use us a 'stepping stone' and show how good he is by playin regular football

Even at 17 I think he wud be a certain starter for us

You think that Ben Arfa is using us as a stepping stone to a higher club?

Well he is a world clas player and aparently he turned down Real Madrid in the summer because he sed he wasnt redy 2 play for a team like that

I wud like 2 be proved wrong but if we dont play in Europe next season or the season after, he will be a gonner

Perhaps. However, I don't think he'd shift too easily. He really seemed to want to come here, and he's received incredible support from us while he's been recuperating (with personal visits from Ashley, I heard). Plus, if he plays like he did before and realises just how much the toon crowd think he's a legend, he'll have a soft spot for us I'm sure - in much the same way Tiote seems to have.
