Isn't he an absolute beast for a 17 year old? Imagine him and Ranger up front in 4-5 years time...defenders would be scared ****less.

This. Potentially he can be even better than Drogba though.

Can't help but think it's just a bit too much money though. He's class, especially for such a young age, and if we get him I'm not gonna whinge, he'd be excellent in our squad, but that much money could be better invested. *cough*Gervinho+Ba*cough*

And Vargas, obviously, Sanchino ;) I wouldn't dare state otherwise!

Laughed at giants. That fee for someone so young is ridiculous though. So many players around his age are hyped up and end up ****. Definitely not worth the risk.

It's like £20m, I'm sure we can squeeze Gervinho and Ba and out of that amount

The key difference here though is that he's already real good for a 17 year old. For example, Connor Whickham is being hyped up, but only for his potential, as he currently only has 10 goals in 59 apps.

Lukaku, on the other hand, has 26 goals in 61 apps since 2009. That's not far off a goal every two games. In fact, an article I've just read says he's scored 11 goals in his last 21 apps.

So, imo, there's no potential to really gamble on. He's already there as a prolific goalscorer. The only difference is whether he could keep up that scoring in the EPL, but that risk comes with any foreign player. Considering he's only 17 and already 6'3, I think he has as good a chance as any of being able to do so. It hardly seems like he's some little foreign spelk who is going to get rammed off the ball at every opportunity.

That is the risk of buying Ronald Vargas.

The kid does have talent and is darn strong on the ball but £20 million for 1 player when we need several to bolster the current squad?

A risk too far in my opinion.

The only risk of buying Vargas is that I might run down from the pitch one day and punch him in the back of the head out of pure unrelenting fury.

PS: I cannot believe this Lukaku guy is only 17. Imagine him when he's 22 with 4/5 years of top flight experience under his belt and a lot more strength. Madness.

    OT :

He seems like the perfect striker to play in a 451/4321 formation. He's quick, skillful and strong. Decent finisher as well.

He does but it's the cost that worries me.

We certainly need to replace Carroll and he does look good but what about the remainder of positions we need additional cover? Purchasing Lukaku will take two thirds of our budget away if Mike is happy to re-invest £30 million.

£20m is a big risk... And a lot of the Carroll money gone if it doesn't pay off...

Not a chance of getting Lukaku, he's going to a CL team in a year or two for over 20mil easy.

Exactly. Who would be a lot less of a risk. Ba has already proven he will be able to cope at this level, and Gervinho, well.. he's Gervinho.

It's not just the small players who dont make it over here, Shevchenko was a world class proven striker in a top league, not exactly small, and was just £10m more, he proved to be a flop, for one of the top two teams in the league (at the time). Same for Forlan, he isn't exactly small, but couldnt adjust to the EPL, hes a quality striker as proven in Spain, but even for the biggest club in the country - he couldn't deliver. I dont really want to risk near £20m on someone who could be a flop.

5 Goals has said he doesn't have a brilliant attitude, if it takes him a while to adjust he will have his sights set on an early exit.

The problem is, although he would be awesome for us, there is no way we could compete with the wages/CL football offered by other clubs.

    We can always dream though...

Call me old fashioned but I would like to keep a British like spine of the team. The fact that the 'senior players' Nolan, Barton, Harper & Smith are all English and know the English game and know how passionate we are, for me has been a key role in the team spirit we have.

Now I know you have the Tiote's, Coloccini's etc that have taken to the team spirit and I am not opposed to having foreigners in but think it would be a good idea not to flood the team with foreigners this summer. Thoughts?
