Vertonghen in ????

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by TillIDie, Jun 1, 2012.

  1. It might be the case that Levy was looking to see how he performed tonight before putting pen to paper. It might be a case of "if he had played badly tonight, there's no deal."

I don't think Levy is silly enough to judge a player on one performance. Vertonghen will have been watched extensively, before any bid was launched. I think the days of blowing millions on " Carlos kick a ball" on the strength of his rep alone, are gone.

Why is everyone assuming it's down to Levy being tight that we haven't signed him yet.

something i pondered...this negotiations are on going rubbish...really how long does it take to thrash out a deal?

1.we have a wage cap and a salary in mind
2.Vert has a salary in mind
3.the club has a fee in mind
4.we have a fee we are willing to pay

the last one is the only thing that can be swayed...but we want him..so what is it dependent on?

nthing to do with euros i think as it has no bearing on this deal..it cant have.

i could thrash smthing out in an hour...and even with point 4 i know how much i would be willing to give tops...so wheres the issue and why?!

Is Vertonghen waiting for the 'Harry' outcome, you could say Levy is quite busy having to deal with Stretford now.

Levy will know what the outcome will be..he knows even if we dont, that Harry is going, staying etc...and im sure he will have informed Vert if he wanted to know.

  8. Not assuming by any means, but past history certainly suggests that DL holds out for the best deal. And that as we know can lead to some lost opportunities.

That may well not be the case here, but as the only public pronouncements have been the positive vibes from the player himself, it suggests that the sticking point is the transfer fee. I certainly don't think we should (or could) become a buy-at-any-price club, but equally the are times when a clubs valuation needs to be acknowledged and met. Maybe this is one of those times......

Not so sure about that Dona, how sensitive is that info! I really don't think Levy would pass such information to someone who in essence is a non Spurs employee and their agent, I can't see it, I think you'd call that highly unprofessional for Harry to not know first if thats the case, surely he's learnt from Jol!

i get what you mean and i did consider it..i just tried to be Levy for a second....so after dragging myself out of poundstretchers i thought to myself..well maybe Vert wanted to know and...even though it is sensitive...if it isnt disclosed to Vert then it could blow up in our faces so maybe he would tell him what our situation is for next season...Players always want to know what the plans for the future are..i dont see how the manager is not included in these plans.

your suggestion seems more professional....so you could be right.

It could well mean why JV was quoted as saying it could take a couple of days or a couple of weeks, having to wait for Levy to settle things with the manager. As you say, things need to be done in an order and the manager situation is crucial for a potential signing....unless its Chelsea of course! :)

makes sense...im glad hes keen to join us so he wont be too concerned with having to wait....but what if HR left? would he decline? and then he looks like a Hazard as he tries to gt himself another club?

ohh i dont want to go there..we shall just wait and see..im confident though.

If we get him I hope we still get a proper left back in, I don't like defenders being put into multiple positions. As good as Kaboul was at covering right back in 10/11, playing regularly in one position helped him on immeasurably last season.

He had a long spell playing alongside Ledley. If you can't learn the art of defending from the master, then you never will. Fortunately, for us, he has.

If our summer signings are being held up by the latest round of Harry's shenanigans, that isn't going to gain the gratitude of fans who are already pissed off his last round of shenanigans made an utter bollocks of our season.

  16. It is the one thing that truly makes me despair about our club...

    ALL THIS ****ING ABOUT!

We never seem to be able to do things quietly or simply, do we?

We can HIAG if we ditch Delboy Redknapp and get an honest coach in. Arry has Arfur Daly written all over him.

  19. "The centre-back’s switch to north London has been in the offing for some time, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy hesitant to match the Dutch side’s fee for a player with just one year left on his contract."

    <doh>
Sounds all too familiar, doesn't it!

It may sound familiar, but we haven't heard of many other clubs (any) that are prepared "to match the Dutch side’s fee for a player with just one year left on his contract" have we?

It's very easy to say we should pay whatever the other side are demanding, and meet whatever wage demands the player is making, but that is not the way to preserve financial health.
