certainly one of the best footballers of the last 20 years but as you say, national treasure? not so sure... depends how you classify that statement.

would have walked into any club side in world football over the past ten years (and probably still would) - you can't give more praise than that. just a shame he appears, at least, to come across as arrogant and a bit of a pig. he's not the only chelsea player we can say that about though! a truly world class left back <ok>

...it seems all english players at chelsea can be tarred with the same brush. all very full of themselves, but he is a good player.
 
I must admit I don't have a clue how Townsend gave MOTM to "Steeeeeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" when Cole was by far the best player on the pitch. Him and Rooney (maybe Hart) are the only World Class players we have.
I think there might well be a bit of arse licking from dear old Andy.
 
Easily the best left back I've seen for England his attitude lets him down though at times, I do feel sorry for how he was demonised in the press for supposedly going behind the 'peoples princesses' Cheryl Cole's back.
