Ok people. Lots of talk about Harry staying, Harry going, preferred new managers or keeping what we have. So having gathered up the sizeable list of candidates that have been discussing, place your vote on your preferred choice of manager next season. Then we can fire off a copy via email to D. Levy ;o) Please try to keep the arguments brief (and friendly). It would be good just to get a poll together to see where our votes go... Polls only allow a max of 15 options so I have added those most commonly spoken about by fans, the press and betting odds. EDIT: Sorry folks, don't know why I added Bilic to this list now that he's accepted a new post. Can't seem to edit the poll.
Voted Martinez because we won't be able to afford Jose or else I would of voted him. No Klinsmann in the vote?
I've gone with Ancelotti. I can see why Martinez would be a good gamble, but he'd still be just that - a gamble. I'd rather we kept Redknapp than gamble on Martinez. I, too, would have gone with Mourhino, but I'm going to be realistic. Billic is now out of the equation, and he would have been my preferred choice. I don't think Moyes would be a good fit for our club, and I'm not convinced that he couldn't have done better with Everton. Hoddle & Jol had their chance, and as much I love the both of them, I think it would be a mistake to re-visit past appointments that ended in sackings. Klinsmann has made it clear that he doesn't want to leave the USA. Rafa Benitez? I thought he was a clown at Klanfield, and I think he'd be a clown at the Lane. No thanks. The others on you list I have no particular feelings for, either way.
Indeed I would have chosen José Mourinho in a heartbeat but too feel, he's out of our reach; but added him to the list nevertheless as others may feel he could be swayed to come to WHL if the cheque is big enough. But after much pain, I feel we have to stick with Harry for now. Ancelloti on the other hand, could be a good appointment. Interesting to see how this is shaping up though...
I went for Klinsmann, he's a Spurs legend and deserves the opportunity, although we all know legendary players don't necessarily make legendary managers. However, his record with Munich is not to be sniffed at, and extracting him from the USA shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to do.
He's made it absolutely clear, on several occasions, that he has absolutely no intention of moving his family away from the USA. It's never going to happen.
Well if Harry can commute from Poole every day... There's a few other managers that could be on the list: Louis van Gaal is free, Laurent Blanc and Giovanni Trapattoni will be free after the Euros. OK, maybe not Trapattoni, he's a catenaccio merchant. Chelsea would suit him more...
I had the first two on my list to add but the poll was limited to 15 so I went for the most commonly referenced in recent threads, news, press etc... Interesting to see how this poll is shaping up. Seems most fans want to keep Harry. Of those that don't, no-one can unanimously agree on the same person so any new appointment would divide the fans. So looks like we need to back Harry and the team for now and push on. Whilst I am still not convinced that Harry is right for us with all the antics of last season and what could come around the corner, I did vote for him simply because I'd prefer continuity over change. Still, the poll is still open so if you haven't voted yet, please vote now. Be good to get everyone's vote on this subject which has had a lot of us at each other's throats for the past 4-5 months.
Ahhhh, this I was unaware of... But there's been a surprisingly low turnout for Moyes... I always had the impression that this board favoured him immensely. And Geovanni Trapattoni is the last manager we want to sign. Behind Wenger, Bergkamp and even Judas. His teams play some of the worst Italian anti-football I have ever seen.
We keep Harry for now in my opinion. Don't see who we would get without having previously lined them up if we got rid of him tomorrow, and if we keep a hold on Harry for at least the next year then we have a far better chance of keeping hold of our key players like Modric IMO. With any luck there will be no distractions (both of his own making and from circumstances beyond his control) in the coming season if he stays, and he might learn from his mistakes regarding squad rotation and players in the correct positions and thus make sure we can sustain something close to our best form in the league/win the EL or FA Cup.
Can't believe this is even a question. I think it's informative that almost all of the comments on a thread like this will be discussions as to why Harry should go, who should replace him etc but the majority of people want him still next year. I think this is an issue where I'm almost more likely to agree with opposing fans on forums. We'd be mad to get rid of Harry. Anyone with any perspective can see that. (Though I must admit that, after the QPR game, when it looked like he'd be going anyway, it did cross my mind that a change of manager at that point would be better than waiting til summer - we just looked so hopeless).
I agree. Having a poll effectively puts all these "Harry go/Harry stay" arguments to bed as we can all see as clear as day that most of us want him to stay and the rest can't agree on a replacement. So to me this shows we need to back our man now, push on for next season and get some quality in to strengthen the squad. Are you reading Mr. Levy? COYS!!!
This is as much about whether Levy wants Harry to stay, as will Harry leave. It's blindingly obvious that the whole dynamic has changed in the last few months. In February, there was a shiny new 3 year contract on the table, which Levy was eager for him to sign. He didn't ! I don't believe that there is any question as to why he didn't sign. Now, thanks to our dramatic loss of form - and along with it 3rd place and the CL - Levy has withdrawn his offer, and seems to have gone distinctly cold on offering any improvements. Personally, once again, I don't believe that here's any doubting the reason why. Harry may stay - he may go. Personally, I don't really care. He showed his true colours for me, and the club suffered for it. Unforgivable, in my book. Replacements? Well, being realistic, who can we afford - who can we attract. I'd love to have Mourinho - it ain't going to happen! Possibly, Hiddinck? If not, i'd be tempted to take a shot on Martinez.
Ancelotti? Jose? If you sold your training ground you might be able to afford one of theese but they would laugh at you anyway. Your stung with twitchy fat face, he might skim the profits to fix his twitch, the fat tramp.
I also went for Carlo..if i had to choose a replacement...the guy won the double and got sacked ...he would nudge us up a level with his thinking...if not him then im afraid looking at that list..its full of managers that are out of our league or untried at posts like ours..so for this one instance and in anticipation of next season..ill stick with the devil i know in HR. im actually optimistic about next year as i believe that HR has been scorned with his England snub..looked a bit pisssed off when asked about it after the fulham club..and for once in his life he called Spurs 'his club'..''his team'...if that is the passion running through him..albeit after he got a good slap from the FA..then im happy to se him prove everyone wrong with Spurs.
even though he said he would be intrested in joining Spurs but you decide he wasnt intrested? shouldnt you be on the Norwich board and Swansea board..helping your new managers revolution? or on the lookout for a few more over priced Englishmen to buy? we still got Jenas, hes english.
