With the news that Craig Bellamy has made the squad and the rest to be announced this week I was wondering who do you think will fill the other 2 over 23's berths. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4353766/Craig-Bellamy-breaks-Olympic-code-to-say-hes-in-Team-GB.html With players like Giggs, Bale, Beckham, Scholes all making them selves available it looks to be a hard decision for Pearce. I personally think Beckham should go as he is still a great player and has also done so much for the Olympics, I would also like to see Bale as I think he deserves to be seen on a biggish stage other than the Champions League.
I love the Olympics and am looking forward to it. It would be nice if we had a decent run in the football, but suspect we'll be lucky to be in last four.
I would like us to do well but really depends who we pick, obviously we can pick from all of the home nations but I suspect there is gonna be players in there for sake of it to stop it all being English players.
Will be nice for Giggs and Bale to be in a team with a chance (admittedly small) of winning a trophy. Not being nasty, just a fact.
Have to say I am looking forward to the Olympics football. It almost always throws a new star on to the world stage and we get a chance to look at some of the youngsters with other nations. For people like Giggs and Bale a chance to shine on the world stage and one last hurrah for Mr Beckham and whatever your views on him he did an awful lot to get us the Olympics and lets face it watching England over the last 15 odd years would have been a lot more painful without him. Got tickets for the semis and cant wait for the Olympics to arrive in general even if I didnt get tickets to watch the Cycling.
Think it will be Bellamy, Giggs and Beckham. Can't think of a Scottish or N.Irish players. Bale and Ramsay. Perhaps Rhodes for the scots. Has our target J Rod been mentioned as a possible squad player?
Haven't seen J Rod mentioned anywhere, don't think too many people outside of Championship or promoted teams really no much about him. When I was discussing him with a Arsenal fan mate his words were 'who?'
Those Gooners were saying the same thing about little Oxface-Chappelthwaite less than a year ago, so what do they know?
There was talk of Pearce looking at Lallana and Cork last season wasn't there? Think Lallana could have a good chance!
Touch of cynicism there, but there is still a huge kudos to having an Olympic medal. Bet any sportsman would put a Gold Medal in pride of place. You can see this because, when they appear on TV wearing it, everybody wants to touch it.
he does not play for a top 8 premiership club, so cannot be picked to play for england-its the new law
It would have been good to choose players who have not reached the limelight in either club or international football so I hope the likes of Giggs, Beckham and Bale are ignored -and players like Grant Holt, Rickie Lambert, Rhodes and Shawcross are considered. If Beckham wants to contribute, perhaps he could be assistant coach!!
Gareth Bale doesn't turn 23 until the 16th July. Does that make him a eligible member of the U23 part of the squad or would he need to count as one of the three over 23 players? Confused.com
It's how old you are at the start of the Olympic year (so in this case, you must have been born on or after 1 January 1989 to qualify)
