The above is utter rubbish! Augustus of Hippo interpreted the Bible using metaphor in 430. And Philo's exegesis of the Old Testament was even more reliant upon metaphor. (Edit: Which was much earlier, C1st). Fundamentalism and creationism arose mostly in the 1880s in the USA. You have very clearly demonstrated in the above post that you have very little knowledge of theology! Perhaps that's why you think my posts are "too long" and consist of "nothing." To claim Christians are only moving the goalposts now is a claim you only make because you need Christians to be fundamentalists to set up your straw man arguments to make them look stupid. And due to your clear lack of reading around the topic. Go and read up on some Theology before you start talking about it! The most intelligent athiests in the world; S.J. Gould (now sadly passed away) and Ruse for exaple, all have a good grounding in Theology and Philosophy. Others, like Dawkins, don't.
FFS, it's simply an inherent genetic make-up that gives us minds that are 'consciously aware' (also creative and imaginative). And yes, it's truly ****ing amazing! ...ergo et yada rum-papa! That is not an open door to cling onto ridiculous doctrines that support an afterlife for instance. It's superstitious nonsense. That's the point. Anything else?
Have you read the Blind Watchmaker? It's a respected work. -as for the other above gibberish, the nonsense doctrine quoted in the work of fiction has hindered Science and often persecuted Scientists. Sciences Theories extending knowledge based on rigorous method and testing. Hello - Science has a lot of evidence in it's favour, wake up and smell the good stuff monkey boy because it's great to be a mammal.
Yes I have and alongside River out of Eden I think it's some of his better work. I'm ardently for science, don't worry about that. I just don't think it's incompatible with faith as some seem to.
Wow, I can't believe that this whoe religion debate was intially started off a week ago by somebody making a lame Catholic joke!
posting this here as its more likely to hit a million before the thread of that name please log in to view this image
Theology is the systematic study of religion and its influences and of the nature of supposed religious truths, or the learned profession acquired by completing specialized courses in religion, usually at a college or seminary. What the **** has theology got to do with someone who doesn't believe in religion. Theology isn't proof religion is real, Dear God help me out here! Like I said you're just being obtuse. Philo and Hippo so what two guys more obtuse than yourself, well done for finding them. Show me proof for anything in the bible! Show me proof of miracles! Show me proof God existed or his conman son! Show me proof God created Heaven and Earth! Christianity is based on the premise of God being the Creator and Jesus being his son. Show me the evidence not obscure waffle and evasion! Unless you're saying all of the Bible is metaphorical?
Hang on there one second. You say you don't believe, so you get engaged on the level of a non believer by being presented with arguments based on the study of Faith rather than its manifestation and you want to cut all that out and say 'prove there is a god'? is that the sum of it?
