the Morning After feeling today, great performance from Camelot. Ironic how his victory sunk me in the knockout cup! Anyways, i couldnt find a daily thread so i will start with a couple of selections today 3.10 - westlin winds 7/2 4.00 - blue hills 2/1 goodluck all who play today
Going for Ektihaam and Imperial Monarch in the jockey club. No science behind my selections, just recent form of both horse and stable in each case, plus hope of a trade later on Betfair, should one or both be backed.
I quite fancy LUNAYIR at 25/1, but surely if Camelot is as good as everybody thinks then FRENCH FIFTEEN wins this, as he only finished 1/4 length behind Camelot at Newmarket.
Im going to disagree slightly, i dont think the 2000 was Camelots target at all and he has improved a hell of alot since that race. It all depends whether French 15 has also come on as much. I feel the 2000 was more of a target for FF with the horse only entered in this race after that result. That said i think the price is fair enough but I would be happy to oppose FF today.
One to bear in mind today in Nottinghams 4.20 is Loveage, who at 4/1 looks excellent value because I think he is almost too obviously well-handicapped and was an exceptionally unlucky loser at Lingfield last time, travelling all over them a long way out but never got the room to get in the clear and went 3rd at the line. Over at Chantilly... The Group Two fillies event (2.30) is a lovely little race and I'm taking on the favourite, Mashoora, who whilst impressive last time out with a cheeky victory, looks vulnerable in a battle. I fancy two horses to come very late on the scene- firstly Poupee Flash who has been steadily progressive until being beaten last time out, but I don't think there was enough pace on and in the end the race fell quite nicely for the winner, who is a smart Andre Fabre animal called DALKALA (watch out for this one through the season). Poupee Flash is a really well made animal, stays the trip, travels nicely and will be a big danger in a truly run race. The other horse I think is way overpriced is ZANTENDA who I think has shaped with serious potential on more than one occasion. Disappointing in the French Guineas, she was dropped to 5f where she finished very strongly from the rear. That's the crucial point here- I expect a change of tactics from Olivier Peslier, who had her leading the Guineas before weakening, and I think she will come with a late rattle this time and can hopefully get right in the frame with Poupee Flash.
Kezampour has a nice draw and has done the business on the track so far. 7/1 for the French Derby looks fair enough.
One think that knarks me about the French races is the lack of pace. If we wanted sprint finishes then we'd have more 5f races FFS. What is the point of horses jogging for a mile and a quarter then going all out sprint? What does it realy prove?
Right, French Derby for me with Saint Baudalino 6/1 (tonnes of promise) and Frankie to ride a masterclass on Albion 14/1 e.w and silence any doubters.
Anyone who saw the French Derby just then will now hopefully understand my fury that Imperial Monarch did not run over a mile and a half at Epsom instead. He was eating up the ground like a steamtrain and would not have stopped at Epsom. Seriously good middle distance horse.
What exactly are you bothered about though? He would never be able to beat Camelot yesterday so they tried to win another Classic. What's wrong with that?
