Can't think why you'd be keen on that <whistle>;)

I'm deliberately not forming an opinion of Malky coming back here, the 'emotional' bit just ruins any judgement I could have on it.
I think he'd absolutely jump at it and he remains a hugely popular figure, but is he the right man? I can't make my mind up.

What about getting Newcastle in to the top half of the Premier League in their first season? The Newcastle fans were fuming when he got the bullet, so he must of been doing something right.

Who would you go for?
 
Well if we all think its Houghton.......its a sure bet that Mcnasty will suprise us all with a new name that no ones put forward ....sven ?

He did well at Watford on a shoestring budget, but has done no better than Dave Jones at Cardiff. I'm leaning towards no.

I'm completely with you on that, Exile! Loved the player, have big doubts on his management style, Watford have improved since his departure, Cardiff have been habitual play-off contenders for a few years now, so he's not really improved things!

Still love him as a legend though! <ok>

don't just look at his record. look at how he man manages players. look at how he can set his teams up to play different styles when needed (similar to lambert), look at how he copes under enormous pressure to achieve results (newcastle in championship), look at how he guided two clubs through difficult periods, look at how much experience he had as a number two at a big club (spurs), look at his demeanour (always positive, looking to win). so many reasons why he is the right man for the job. don't just look at results <ok>

I'd argue that with the turnover at Cardiff last year, he's done a better job than Jones did.
I think he's becoming a very decent manager, and he'll end up in the top flight, just can't work out if it should be with us.

That damn emotional response keeps saying yes, but...
 
i really feel that at best, mackay should be second choice behind hughton. he certainly has the potential but as has been mentioned before, would he be so high in our thoughts had he never played for the club before? i don't think he would at this time <ok>

Yeah that's a fair point and he was harshly treated but it turned out to be a decent decision pardew has taken them into Europe.....and nearly the champions league. i think he is decent but not excited about him.

I wouldn't mind malkey (nothing to do with connection to the club) or someone like a Di matteo not sure if he would come here tho.
 
Funny thing with Di Matteo, isn't it? A few short months ago he'd have loved at shot at this job. Now, I think he'll be looking a little higher up the pyramid. Probably with some justification given the last month!
 
hughton to a degree set some of the foundations at newcastle that pardew is reaping the rewards from! for starters, he brought stability to the club in a time that it was close to collapsing. honestly, he's a snug fit at norwich - we'd be daft not to at least see where the land lies in terms of compensation etc. but mcnally knows best...
 
Cardiff were penalties away from the carling cup and European football next year. I thought they played really well.
Not saying I'd like Malky, I think Hughton would be best but Malky is an good manager.
On a more emotional note I'd love to see Malky back. Met him a few times when he played for us and he's a very nice man, could bare to see him sacked.

Pardew has spent more money though hasn't he. Pardew has made that squad over-perform in my view.

Malky has done little compared to Hughton. Unfortunately, Di Matteo will have other jobs in his sights if he doesn't get the Chelsea job.<ok>

completely agree its not all about results but it certainly helps Tbh:-)

Tbh when I've seen Birmingham this season they have been pretty dull and unimaginative and he was comprehensively out done by holloway for tactics in the playoffs.

I also seem to remember quite a bit of problems when he was at newcastle with people being arrested and big nights out with players in their team.

im just not sure on him i would happily be proved wrong but don't think mcnally will go for him.
 
i think hughton was backed into a corner at birmingham last season. he was only able to bring in one player on a free and lost about 15 players. he had to play with what he was left by mcleish (and we know how his teams played) so he actually shows good tactical nous to play to their strengths if required. birmingham also played nearly 70 matches last season and STILL nearly got promoted. impressive stuff, and his team at newcastle were able to switch from good attacking, passing football to being direct, something lambert has shown is very effective. he's got it, whatever IT is <ok>
 
I would like a manager with a strong defensive record (not boring defensive play just balanced), 3 clean sheets all season but finished 12th seems to say that going forward were ok but some work with the defence needs to be done.
I know without Holt we will have to replace some fire power, although if he stays fit i reckon Vaughan could be outstanding, and we've also had injuries at the back which might be better this season. However i reckon if we had a stronger defence we could have been even better this season.

Regarding Hughton's compensation I think we are in a better position then West Brom in that sense. We will get a million or so compensation for Lambert, West Brom got none for Hodgson because his contract expired. That could be wrong but I remember that being the case.

In that sense the compensation isn't a massive stumbling block.

Mackay to be fair has had to cut the wage bill drastically, lost the League Cup on the lottery of penalty shoot out. At Watford he had barely any money at all, they have done better this year because they have had cash to spend selling Don Cowie, Marvin Sordell and their youngsters being a year older and gaining experience whilst Malky was there.

Maybe that's another hat to throw in though, Sean Dyche? Quite underrated manager in my opinion. Probably too inexperience mind, probably another year or so.

Also I wonder whether we could attract Di Matteo if he wasn't offered Chelsea job. I actually have no idea.
