The end of the season saw Ledley take time to have a minor procedure on his knee.

Catching up with Ledley today, he said:

"I had a really good start to last season and was pleased to play as many games as I did. A knock in training set me back towards the end, but I opted to carry on playing rather than take the time out to have the knee seen to. Unfortunately that meant that I didn’t play the last few games at the standard I would have liked.

"I’ve been discussing things with the Club and my contract expires this summer. The Club has been fantastic in supporting me and given me several options to stay involved with Tottenham. I shall take a view with them pre-season on my future.

"Tottenham has been the only Club for me and if I can’t play here then I shall look to be involved in another capacity."

Were you watching Sky Sports News just now when they announced this news?

They cut off half way through a report and said "we have some breaking news coming in from Tottenham now".

VERTONGHEN? LEANDRO? MODRIC SIGNS NEW CONTRACT??

No. Just someone saying King might carry on playing next season, or he might not. Great. Got me excited for nothing!

    As for Ledley:

I think we should give him a pay and you play deal at best. He showed this season he can still play 1 game a week on the whole.

That last sentence (bolded) shows what Ledley is all about. He's Spurs through and through, more than anyone else in my lifetime.

I'll always love the King, and it will be a sad day when he retires, even though it will eventually be the best for the club.

I think that it's time that he retired from playing, unfortunately, but it's good to see that the club's showing him some loyalty and looking to keep him involved.
He reads the game superbly and knows how to organise and motivate a defence, so he's definitely got some attributes to build upon.
If he could teach the likes of Caulker, Walker, Naughton, Rose and other inexperienced defenders at the club a thing or two, then we might not suffer that badly from losing him from the pitch.

good new's he want's to stay,so we should get him into a coaching role,to retire from playing,or he could do serious damage to himself

i think we need to not give him a new contract but give him a defensive coaching role.

centreback pairings need time to form a partnership understanding etc....im afraid this saga every signle week of 'will he ,wont be fit' just takes away the opportunity of us making progress in the long run...with the constant changng of centreback pairings just because Ledley can squeeze a game in..even though the other 2 centrebacks have been fine.

Kaboul and Vertognen is an immense line up..i would want to give it time and lots of it to become as formidable as i think it can....Ledley is in the way im afraid.

Love him...that goes without saying...but we once again just keeping the old boys happy and thus hurting ourselves.

we must be firm...move him upstairs for many a reason.

It's clear he will have some kind of Ambassador role at the club when the time comes to call it a day, and he's already playing a big part of our communtiy program - and, unless I'm missing something, we don;t have a dedicated defensive coach on the books, so there's a role there for him as well.

Great servant as he's been, it's now time to retire gracefully. A bit like a great boxer who's way past his best, I'd rather remember him as the great player he was - not as some clapped out parody of himself. That would just be embarrassing.

The last games Ledley gave us weren't good by his standards, a few clumsy challenges and all at sea defending a few set pieces, no time for nostalgia for me hoping for the odd good game...whats the point?

He was saying that was, in part, down to playing games more injured than usual as he really needed an operation on his knee.

Hope he gets one more year of playing.

is that due to us being down to our bare bones in centrebacks or was it Harry running players into the ground again?

  14. I agree - for most of last season he remained fit and was performing well. It was only the last few games when he was clearly battling with another injury that the level dropped.

As others have said, I don't want him to either do any more permanent injury to himself nor devalue his legacy as a player, but equally if he was able to start next season as he did the last then I think he still has something to offer as a member of the squad. If only supporting Kaboul and (hopefully) Vertonghen with Daws and Caulker.

A legend whatever and his love of the club quite gladdens the heart!!!
