My first thread!! <badger>

I was reading the other day that Dawson will be working through the summer to ensure he is fit for next season.

Dawson has always been a player I respect, I know he has his faults, but when alongside a quality CB he has been great for us over the years and up until his injury (playing for England) really looked like being an England regular (at least as a squad member)

What do you guys think of him and the prospect of him being along side Kaboul especially if we fail in our bid to get Vertonghen?

I've always liked Dawson and could never understand the criticism he gets from some quarters of our support. This was the player of whom Tevez said that he was the best English CB he'd ever played against. We missed his strength in the air, especially, last season.

It's great news if he's already on the mend.
 
With Kaboul, Dawson, (hopefully) Vertonghen, and Caulker, we have 4 top quality centre backs for one reason or another. Dawson is a leader too, both on the pitch and in the changing rooms and training, and players like that are so valuable to a squad. We could have done with him in the side during our losing streak in February/March.
 
I think he's taken a leaf out of Defoe's book, as it seemed to work very well for him in the last pre-season.

Not sure that he complements Kaboul that well, though and I wish he'd play less long passes at times.
Stick him alongside a centre-half that's comfortable on the ball and sweeps up well (Gallas?) and he'll do a very good job for us.

Vertonghen.

I think that we should have Vertonghen and Kaboul as first choice. Then if Kaboul gets injured bring in Dawson, but if Vertonghen is injured bring in Caulker. Because then we would keep the balance of the back 4 the same.

Sounds about right, depending upon who we keep/sign/sell/retire.
 
Have said for a long time how important it is for Spurs to have players like Dawson around. He might not start in our first eleven if everyone's fit but a more committed, honest and capable back up we could not wish for.

And he's hardly ever let us down. There was one short patch when he looked a bit dodgy a few seasons back but other than that he's been solid since his first game for us.

It'll be great to have him back.

Some of his diagonal balls are really effective while Bale is bombing down the wing, but he seems to rely on this ball too much especially when we are trying to push.

Surely that is a matter for Harry. He wouldn't do it if the management told him not to. Sometimes he hits some great passes from deep.
 
I don't mind Dawson trying to pick people out with the occasional long pass from the back, but I do mind him giving away possession with desperate lumps forward.
He resorts to that sometimes when he runs out of ideas and it never works.

Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot, but it's the major aspect of his game that lets him down at the moment.
That and his rare horrific aberration games, when he puts in a total stinker for no apparent reason.

I think that'd be most people's first choice. - But i think next season we really need to be prepared to rotate the defence so they are all playing once a week, and I guess that depends how seriously we take the Europa and domestic cups. - all our defenders are good and Harry's got to keep them all sharp.

Infact, the same goes for the rest of the squad. if Thudd's back and we bring in new strikers, we need to seriously focus on a rotation policy, as it'll keep everyone happy too.

(sorry, these are pretty obvious comments)
 
Apparently Daws, Hudd, and Gallas all came through a full training session last week :). Daws is just the character you need in the dressing room, we all know his one or two slight faults, but as has been said, as long as has a 'quicker' CB alongside, he's as good a PL defender as you'll get.

Great news :D I can't wait to have THudd back, I miss his quality long range efforts.
 
Good to hear he's making good progress. People quickly forget that he was our player of the season not so long ago(09/10?) and by some margin. I remember whilst they were announcing the award the crowd almost drowned out the announcer singing Dawson for England and Only One Michael Dawson.

It's always difficult for players coming back from a succession of injuries like Dawson's had but I'd love to see him made our Europa League captain whilst he gets up to speed and then challenge to get his regular spot back.
 
welcome Bale of Harry....youll have to change your name if/when either leave...should have called yourself something involving Bentley and Jenas....them twats seem like they going to be hanging around.
