    Hello my fine fellow Saints,

First post here, thought I'd share some thoughts... Now I know most people will think I'm nuts but I've been wondering whether we still have a slim chance of nicking top spot of Brighton (who do undoubtedly deserve it I will state up front). So we're 13 points behind, with a game in hand. Let's say we win that, so it's down to 10. And then we beat them at their place. It's down to 7. Could Hudders beat them too and get it down to 4? Would they start getting a little nervous?

Now I know this is predicated on us winning every single remaining game, which is extremely unlikely, and some very speculative optimism but bigger leads have been unwittingly surrendered before...

The next four weeks are sure to be an emotional rollercoaster, but it's a damn sight more fun then a relegation scrap...

    Cheers,
    SR.

I agree with you mate!we are a far,far better side than brighton!I watched the highlights of the saints v Brighton match on saints player and I could not believe how we didn't beat them by 4 or 5 goals(minimum).I know it looks very unlikely but you never know im confident that we can thrash them at the withdean (4-1) and then we'll see how they get on against the other teams...:::tongue:

Welcome SR, I only joined today so looks like quite a few of us Newbies.

You're right, it is a damn sight more fun that a relegation scrap! Personally, i'll be happy with 2nd. Really can't see us catching Brighton as they have been so consistent all season. We've all been hoping that they'd bottle it at some point and they haven't. It will be interesting to see how they fair next season at The Amex when there'll be quite a few Championship teams fancying the trip there and being made to feel at home in nice new surroundings

It's not impossible.., But recently brighton have picked up a couple of draws and i'm sure that there winning will come a little unstuck! I do agree saints and huddersfield can beat them.. because we are by far the better gifted attacking teams in the league!!
But you underestimate the experience of there defenece.., they grind out attacks from opposing teams.. and catch you on the counter! They have been consistant in this! .., The fans are also have a massive impact on there play at the withdean, so i'd be happy with a point!!

I Don't think we will catch them!! Lets just hope we get a a point off brighton, and hpe they do the field! :)

They have 7 games left for us to beat them to the title. We would have to win every game left and for them to lose 4 of their last 7. In theory it is possible but very unlikely........barring a real gob-smacker of a run in by one of us and a real bad run of losses for them. Nah I think it almost done and dusted by Brighton..........

I've got to agree with both of you, I was having exactly the same thoughts when I was on the loo earlier. Like you say, if we win our game in hand over Bumtown and beat them at their place (we owe it to ourselves after the reverse fixture at SMS this year), the gap is reduced to 7pts. Their run in isn't the easiest with games against Hudders and a game at Layer Rd not to mention a game against Sheff W who should raise their game. I know people keep harping on about this but they haven't had a blip yet and their current squad might be unfamiliar with crossing a finish line so early, I can see last minute jitters. If they drop another 2-3pts in of their games, the gap could be reduced to 4pts with 4 or 5 games to go. Then who would have the momentum, squad depth and experience to go and do it? We can dream but you never know. Of course it will take for us to win all 8 of our remaining games... Oddschecker says to me at 14/1 that it could be worth a sneaky punt!

To be honest mate, i'd rather they beat Hudders so that we were pretty much guaranteed 2nd, rather than Hudders take 3 points and still be on our backs. I can't see us catching them, I am more than happy with second :)

As I said before (but being female I don't mind repeating myself), it's best for us if Brighton beat everyone but us.

I would love to see the Terriers look more like lapdogs with Peterborough taking points off of them and then Brighton beating them. They just drop those points and we have two games we can afford to lose.

Let's not worry about what the others do. If we win
most of our remaining games then we will go up. That is in our hands. As for Brighton. The title is very much in theirs. We can only influence one game against them, and if their beating Huddersfield means that they pip us to 1st place, I believe that with counselling, I may just recover.:)

I dont think you will catch Brighton at all but think you will close the gap...

you have still a few tough away games ot go which i think you will drop points....

i see lallana was taken off with a tight groin on Tuesday, and with you have plenty of games to play you cant afford for him to be missing....

You always bang on about lallana. He was taken of to rest as a precuation (excuse spelling??)

Without being mean.... Bournemouth will struggle to hold onto the play off place imo.... do you agree?

Would beating Brighton at their ground help you overcome the trauma?

Well Bristol Rovers 21 atttempts similar to when you played Walsall away..
To be honest we have played quite well and not got much but beofre we played poor and got the points....

Saturday i think we will win and i do think we will hold on..

I bang on about Lallana, because without him you are in trouble...
''Adam Lallana was withdrawn on the hour mark after feeling a tightening of his groin.'' - the quote from the ehco......
