about Paul Lambert apparently wanting to leave for Villa is the fact he was at least 3rd choice for the job. OGS was flown from Norway to Brum for talks and was all but named as boss. Dave Whelan has just confirmed on Talksport that Martinez was approached by Villa and talks were held. So I am very, very surprised he still wants to talk to them.

That leads me to believe that Lambert must of been unhappy here and was almost desperate to leave for whatever reason. Money for wages and transfers would be my best guess, although others are saying he was starting to feel stale here.

My Mother has seen Lambert and Foulger at The Stag in Attleborough twice in the last two weeks, and they both came across as being very happy. I wonder what they were chatting about?

It's not third choice that puzzles me, I really can't see what Villa have that makes it worth him leaving behind what he has made at Norwich.

Money for him, money for players and a fresh challenge if he is feeling stale.

i guess we will never know the real reasons, they may not even be anything behind it (why he leaves, if he does)

Mick Dennis has just said on Talksport that we wrote to Villa weeks ago to tell them we wouldn't welcome any contact from them regarding Lambert.

Does he want out or does he just want to hear what a.n. other team might have to say?

I'm sorry but that doesn't mean he definitely wants to go, it means he feels strongly enough about wanting to talk to them to put his neck on the line - Not the same thing.

I've quit jobs in the past on principal and didn't have somewhere else to go at the time because I felt the piss was being taken one way or another. If PL felt he was being pushed into a corner and that ANY club that came for him in the future would be told to FO without him getting a chance to talk to them at all then he might well have said not having this. He could also have been using it as a negotiating tactic, i've known plenty of people who have done similar things at pay rise negotiation time.

Things are not always quite as simple or one dimensional as you think. I am not saying this is or is not the case BUT there is the real possibility, we will have to see. I do believe he will go, it's not blinkers on or anything like that but I simply believe it's not as simple as f**k this i've had enough here

They really are the same thing, because if we had accepted his resignation there would be no way back if he did want back.

Thing is, if the Club are just saying 'No, you can't talk to anyone', then he'd have little option but to offer his resignation, unless he wants to stay here forever. We all know he's ambitious, and can all understand why he'd want to talk to a 'bigger' club, so if the club block it, there's only one course of action open.

Would I want him back? That depends on exactly what comes out. As it stands, if his resignation is rejected and he looks at Villa and turns it down, yes, I'd still have him back. I doubt his relationship with the board could go back though.

Possibly but from that statement it seems DM is leaving the door open at this stage. I guess we all just need to do something else for a bit and wait. Football Manager 2012 anyone? <laugh>

You have hit the nail on the head carra, any ties with the board would have completely severed after this. McNally isn't going to want somebody throwing their toys out of the pram everytime a another job comes along, what sort of security for the club is that!

I think that really depends on whether this has just been about refusing permission to speak. If it has, and he turns down Villa, I think it's repairable. Something like that can be explained away.
If there's more to it, say he's told the board he's just had enough here, then obviously there's no way back.

I think it's the size of the club that are interested though, Guru, and possiby that other managers have been granted permission by their clubs.
We've turned down interest in him before when Burnley came calling. Then he was happy to sit tight.
