Well, nothing official yet, but it seems everyone is taking it as gospel that Lambert has stepped down. If he has really gone, then I guess we would all be thankful for him for giving us our pride back and giving us the best few seasons certainly in my living memory

But if he has resigned then there is two questions I am wondering:

1) What is the point of a contract if he can just walk out? Do we get compo?
2) Why would he want to go to Villa anyway? He has spent three years building a team of a certain type of player and why would he supposedly leave because he didn't get permission to speak to a team full of lazy, overpaid players and some total ****s like Ireland?
 
The Villa thing is strange. Beyond what we can all see, there appears to be something rotten there below the surface. Martinez had a look but didn't want it, prefering to stay at Wigan. O.G.S. turned it down because he said he didn't want to uproot his family, well that's fair enough, but he'd have known that when Villa first called him. Why go through the interview process first?
It seems that when you look a little deeper there may be unpleasant things lurking at Villa Park.

IF he wants to talk to Villa let him I say, does anyone really expect them to give him more money to spend than us right now? If the club clearing debt over transfers is whats annoyed him how is that going to be any different at Villa with the reported sell to buy going on

I am still of the thinking a lot of this is posturing and point proving in a similar way as with Holt the other week. I am prepared to accept he will be gone this week but I do not think it is a cut and dry situation
 
I get it really, if there was a company head hunting me I'd be interested to listen to them.
Sounds like last night there was a bust up with McNally, Lambert probably did walk out, he may well have said he's going to quit. But this morning after some cooling down he's realised this isn't how adults behave and will at least conduct him self properly and leave on good terms.
 
I also don't get this poisoned chalice attitude towards Villa. Ask anybody in the street who is the bigger clubThey have the potential to be bigger than us and I don't care what anyone says, it would be an advancement.

No doubt about that, but I'd rather be driving a recently restored and serviced car, than one in desperate need of restoration.
If someone (possibly Lambert) gets Villa up and running then they have big potential, but that question remains of what state are they currently in.

I'd certainly have wanted to talk to Villa and find out for myself, though. We should, in my view, have made clear we wanted to keep him, then just given permission

This is my opinion too. If McNally had any inkling that Lambert would be pissed off enough to quit if we denied permission, then there was no point withholding it. He may have looked at it, come to the same conclusion as many of us that he wouldn't be that much better off than here, and decided to stay.

If they did have a bust-up over transfer funds, I really don't understand why moving to Villa is that much better. We were estimating the other day that we've got £15-20mil to spend, whilst we're being told Villa have to sell to buy. If he was to hold on another 12 months, we'd have cleared all our debts, the budget would increase further (with some set aside for stadium expansion), and then in 2 years we've got a stadium touching on 30,000 capacity (depending on how many go in front of the hotel) and possibly a transfer budget of £25mil, possibly even more. If he goes to Villa he's got an awkward, busy summer of trying to mould the squad, followed by a relegation battle just like if he'd stayed, and then probably similar money as us to spend next year. To me it doesn't add up.
 
Even us ipswich fans know that McNally is a tough nut and you don't cross him, so say Lambchop has threatened to quit if the permission isn't given to talk to Villa, how do you think there could ever be a working relationship between to after this?

I know for a fact Paul Lambert isn't the sort of person who'd threaten to quit. He would either do it, or not do it! <ok> Both are the sort of people who you'd think if there was a falling out though, there would be no way back.

We certainly not happy, but if it is true I honestly believe Aston Villa is a backwards move and a big mistake for Lambert, but if he doesn't want to be here we can't make him stay. I just wish we'd find out what is really happening sooner rather than later!
 
Until I hear an official club statement, all I understand is that he wants to talk to Villa, and will discover just why the other candidates turned it down.

Perhaps it could be a secret mission, to look at their squad, finances, etc: always useful to spy on league rivals. <whistle>

If he leaves, he will have my gratitude for these last 3 years <somersault>, but if he signs Whitbread, after releasing him, I will go apoplectic with rage! <grr>
