Rumours are going around that we are looking to sign James Constable from Oxford for between 100-150k. In all honesty, I donât know a massive amount about him but I think Harrold is a better all-round player and Constable is of a similar mould. Unless Harrold is off and he is a replacement, then I donât see the logic in signing him? Anyway, anyone else heard this? Anyone else know a bit about Constable? Is he good enough for league one football (we need to sign players who can make the step up!) I seem to remember him tearing us a new one in the cup game when we were battered, but then it wasn't exactly hard for anyone to do that to us at that point. Would you like to see him here? Know any Oxford fans who have an opinion on this?
hi chris he used to play for shrews, have a try on our boards you may get a better picture from matster and co. i do not know the player but many shrews rated him i think. may be beyond his best, but see what the shrews say
He's a inch taller then harrold so probably the same sort of player to be honest I would rather have Constable then Harrold, 149 goals in 355 games not to bad a record.
Someone said on one of our other forums "I would rather spend the money on someone to support Harrold, than buy someone to replace Harrold. It would be irresponsible to replace Harrold who IMO did a good enough job for us last season anyway. Spend the rumoured 100-200k on a good striker to partner Harrold and we will be laughing. Spend 200k on Constable, and we will still need another striker to go with him anyway
Can't see the point - he's exactly the same type of player as Harrold is. He's also been at Oxford for a while, so why would he want to come to us? Swindon tried to get him in january but were rebuffed by Oxford. Can't see this happening, but I have been known to be wrong....
Apparently Constable turned down Swindle rather than the club. I think he did it because we was playing regularly for Oxford and felt some sort of obligation to stay with them at the time. I now believe Constable has fallen out with the current Oxford manager and is now on a rocky road within the club. Oxford fans on here believe he would be a decent signing, but others do not really share that opinion and believe he is a tryer with no real quality... which we have had plenty of recently.... so who knows?
he comes from our neighbours poxford and would partner the other donkey well, chris,i hope your groundsman has a big bucket to pick up all that s**t after the game with them 2 up front
wasn't he the player in the middle of the **** storm between oxford and swindon, who di canio said that he really wants to play for swindon, and not for oxford..

Sooooo, apparently we are still interested in him. Are we likely to put in another bid?? I hope not as 185k is NOT good value for money..... 50-75k I would of been ok with, but nearly 200k...We spent 200k on Lambo who was a far better player even when he first came here!! Problem is, I can't ever see Constable being worth more than we pay for him, and therefore its a no from me
