So there's been lots of talk about this recently and I heard the same suggestion three times yesterday on the radio.
The idea is to have a sudden-death penalty shoot-out after 90 mins. The winner of that has their noses in front - as if they had half a goal. 30mins of extra time is then played. If scores are still level the team who won the shoot-out wins. I actually heard the guy who claimed to have come up with this idea phone Radio 5 and tell the story of how he went to see people at UEFA or FIFA (accompanied by Ramon Vega!) and they really liked the idea.
Few hours later I heard this very idea being discussed in very approving ways by Tim Vickery (I think) and some other footballing journo on the BBC.
What does anyone else think?
Any other ideas? I quite like the approach of taking a player off every five minutes but can see that this might lead to lots of unwanted outcomes (exhaustion if you're just gonna KEEP playing til someone scores, the fact that the Golden Goal thing didn't really work in the first place, that once you get down to two-a side is this really any more like football than penalties? And if you stop at, say, seven-a-side then will teams specialise in this?...).
