Do what they do in the NHL, play on until someone wins, then they wont sit back waiting for penalties. Take a player off every 15 mins until someone scores and they will score when theres so much space.

Because Blatter doesn't like them everyone has to jump and come up with something better? The man is a total arsehole. Perhaps the 2014 World Cup could have Blatter tied to a goalpost and the first Player to hit him directly in the bollox with a shot from the penalty spot wins the match. No tragedy, lots of fun...

Instead of penalties, the player has 30 seconds to take the ball from the Center Circle and beat the Keeper.

They did this in the MLS a few years ago.

They were fine when the English lost 90% of them, all of a sudden the English win one so it has to be changed.

each team selects one player to have his best dive in the game, scored by Olympic judges. In the event of another tie (eg Man Utd's Ashley Young vs Chelski's Drogba), then they have to then select 10 fans randomly for each team out of the crowd and add up the total number of years the 10 fans have supported their respective club. In this scenario, the game finished 1:1 in normal time for example, then on 9.6 vs 9.6 in the dive off and Utd edged the fans years of support with a total of 14 yrs 2 months to Chelsea's 12 yrs 8 months.

Perhaps to keep this interesting for telly, the losing team can then play a joker ............ oh ****, Chelsea with Torres are one step ahead of me

It's only because the last 3 times CL final's have gone to penalty shoot out's English teams have been the beneficiaries in all of them. If Bayern had won last Saturday Blatter wouldn't have cared, in fact he'd probably be telling us how great penalties are for the game and the excitement they bring.

Have the penalty shoot-out before the game. The losing side knows what they have to do.

So does the winning side. You will get the dullest games ever. Every game will be like the CL final with only 1 team trying to win.

He just hates English teams and FIFA/UEFA do in general. If they could kick our teams out of Europe tomorrow they would. Really hoping for an all English CL final next year to piss them off, how annoyed would they be with an all English final in England? Frothing at the mouth lol

That's bitter nonsense DL. But Blatter is a knob-end for sure.

I like the idea of actually judging which team played better, it never seems fair that a team can hold out for a boring draw and win on penalties. The question is how to judge this? If you go for something like shots on target, corners taken, etc. it can still result in a draw. If you went for something like percentage of possession in the opposition half it would be easier to separate the teams as you could go to whichever decimal place you wanted, they'd still be a winner! It would also encourage all out attack!

Judging which team played "better" is subjective though. And if you judge shots on target that can mean players just shooting from 30 yards out or if the scores are tied players time wasting and holding onto the ball, it would actually lead to teams playing more negatively

I still think 30 minutes extra time then golden goal was the best solution regardless of any chess match
That's 2 hours to get the result after that whereupon both teams have had more than enough time to win ... It goes to golden goal. If that takes another 2 hours or more then so be it
Sod the timings Sod the traffic Sod the ground staff etc ... A result of a knockout /cup football match should be decided on the field... People can plan for this .

Whatever changes they make have to be simple so that footballers can understand them. I would simply reduce the outfield players to 6 or 7 aside for extra time, with a couple of substitutions.

But I agree with Goldcoast about bringing back replays.

Penalty shoot-outs are as crap as the play-offs.

The best solution if people really don't want penalties is Silver Goal + Replay

Am i the only one who actually enjoys penalty shoot outs ??!!

Pro players, missing from 12 yards deserve to lose...ala...Bayerns missed penalty....

DL...beter team is only subjective when you've just won a game that on poss and play stasts...you really had no place winning...!
