He doesn't take one for the team, he tries to take one out from the other team. Or, judging by his last performance, three or four...

Thats a great weapon to have....."barton, you're going to get sent off, if that happens, injure the oppositions best player as you leave the pitch".....if we had that, we would be in the champions league.

Why stop there? Just give the psycho a gun and get him to do the job permanently! Then we won't have to worry about meeting that player(s) next year - simples!

No arguments with that ban, but why is it that the instigators of these offences always get away with it, the penalty seems greater for the retaliation? Obviously this is an extreme example, and there's no excuse for the rampage that followed, but there is a lot of winding up going on that doesn't get punished.

Barton fully deserved his punishment, if not a little more, but Tevez clearly hit him off the ball.
I agree with what you're saying.
Where's his ban?

Barton punched Tevez in the back of the head, Tevez responded by taking a swing, and we know the rest.

I must've missed the initial swing, as I saw Tevez strike first.
Even if he did just retaliate, he should still get a ban.

They showed it on MOTD - and you see him going in elbow-first there - which is yet another reason we wouldn't want a player like Barton at WHL, as that just goes to prove he can dish it out but when somebody gives it back to him he loses it completely, which just hands the advantage to the opposition. If we wanted a gobby Scouser who can't take what he dishes out, we may as well sign gaf71.

Oh, I definitely wouldn't want to sign Barton and he fully deserves to be banned, but I don't understand why Tevez hasn't been banned.
The ref didn't see his contribution to the whole thing and he clearly took a swing at Barton, so why no ban?

This sort of thing's very inconsistent, which was nicely illustrated by our game at Eastlands.
Ban for Balotelli, no ban for Lescott. <doh>

Watch it again, Barton only puts an arm out chest height to hold Tevez off...like any other MFer defending in that situation. The arm is not bent so no elbowing there for me. Tevez clumps Barton first. Imo, all the retrospective analysis that incident has been given, Tevez has got away with that.

I agree with Notso.
Barton does what anyone else would in that situation and Tevez just hits him, for some reason.

from that clip it looks like tevez hammerfists barton in the back, i take it thats ok.

Who would want the risk of Barton? He's a violent, uncontrollable headcase who, if he wasn't kicking a football around, what would be kicking a can around the exercise yard at Parkhurst!
