I think the deal breaker here is that Modric is the exact type of player who would get the best out of Torres with his passing so a greedy person would suggest keeping Modders and getting Torres. That kind of marquee signing could also persuade Luka to stay.

Can this greedy person come up with £30m+ ?

Hold on, just doing a little calculation using the values from Transfermarkt...
Gomes - £2.5m
Dos Santos - £4m
Bassong - £4.5m
Bentley - £4.5m
Jenas - £5.5m

How about we offer £10m plus that lot for Torres?

Because Chelsea would just laugh? If we sold them, and used the cash, fair enough, but a club like Chelsea won't want/don't need players of this standard

Got to love the BBC article. "Fernando Torres wants talks with the club about his future after suffering the 'worst moments' of his career" whilst the article shows a photo of him carrying the Champions League, with a smile from ear to ear. Grow up you big girl!

We don't need players like that who sulk if they aren't playing every week. Get some perspective Torres. These modern footballers are a joke sometimes.
You're right, you've already got Van der Vaart

I think you might have reeled some in with that one. Good work.

I don't understand why (apart from Abramovich's ego) Chelsea would still be chasing after Modric. They beat us to Juan Mata, last season and have already secured Marko Marin for next season. Neither is exactly like-for-like, admittedly - but both are low-centre-of-gravity attacking midfielders, like our boy Modders. With Lampard bound to stay on for another year, where does Modders fit into Chelsea's side and how often will he get a game? If Chelsea would give us Torres and Marin, or Sturridge and Mata, or even Lukaku and 25 million quid, I'd take the deal. Oh...and if they want Harry and di Matteo goes to Villa, then I'd want Slaven Bilic as coach, given he has already said how much he wants to coach us, is the only person, apart from Harry, that might persuade Modric to stay, anyway - and who gets Kranjcar playing like a genius almost every time he dons a Croatia shirt.

Actually, it makes a lot of sense for a swap deal involving Torres and RVP.

It will suit Arsenal down to the ground as they would bring in somebody to replicate Van Persie's scoring form and he'd fit right in with their style of play, and it would suit Chelsea down to the ground as they could point to a marquee signing - and still set up their team top play off Drogba, plonk him on the wing, and sell him back to Arsenal 18 months later.
