    Hi Spurs fans,

First off this is not an attempt to wind anybody up, just wondering what your opinions would be on the following, which someone posted on our board.

Given that Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions league that is bound to have a detrimental effect on the potential signings you have been targeting. Bearing that in mind take a look at the attached list of potential free's below:

    http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics.html

There are some very good players in that list, any tickle your fancy? What would Spurs fans make of re-signing Berbatov if you lose Ade?

The following are interesting depending on wages:
    Rodallega
    Ben Foster
    Sigurdsson
Drenthe (plays on the right doesn't he?)

Berba - no. In his prime, great. Now? Meh.

I actually think Berba would be a good punt. He's never been pacey, more a quick football brain so his age isn't too much of a factor for me. I'd have him over Saha any day. Better finisher, passer and skill.

True. I was assuming we would be bringing in 2 strikers tbh. Ade + NS + Defoe.
We gave Berba a lot of stick when he left and rightly so. Burned bridges?

I know we need to buy smart, now that the pot is a little thin but Del Piero is a little past it at 38 don't you think?

Yeah but admittedly, we all have short memories once a player starts scoring again. He got his "dream move". It went sour. Now he can make up for it and start playing again. I think he still has a point or two to prove. He was never the automatic first choice at Utd. Reality check or what! I'd taker him back to the Lane. It's not like he crossed the North London divide. We took back Sherringham after all.

Sheringham left in a more dignified way though, but i see where you are coming from.

Maybe we could get him back for 1 awesome season and convince Fergie he's worth another £20-30m? He must be going a bit senile by now surely.

You gave Ade a lot of stick in the past too, but that worked out ok didn't it.

Berba is well worth the dough. Would have him back in a heartbeat.

Berbatov has wasted his talent at United when he could have been a legend at Spurs.

    Still time?

One thing about that list is that it's a tad misleading at first glance - Sigurdsson, Pogrebnyak, and Drenthe aren't out of contract.

If we had to draw up a list, I'd say...
    Dimitar Berbatov
    Junior Hoilett
    Gretar Steinsson
Rob Green (which will bollocks West Ham's hopes of survival that little bit more!)

We know that Ledders' contract is up in the air, but are both Gomes and Cudicini out of contract too?

Some of those are just loans expiring (Sigurdsson, Taiwo, Modeste, etc.) but Drenthe's actually a loan expiry and a contract expiry, bizarrely.
You'd have thought that Everton would be keen to keep him on, though.

Apparantly he has disciplinary issues so I don't think Moyes is keen to keep him. Quality player though so may well shine with us considering we suit each others playing style

As for Berbatov - free transfer? No brainer for me!

So far, I haven't seen anyone opposed to Berba coming back to the Lane so maybe we should send a polite but persuasive email to [email protected] hehe?

in the "p.s" of the letter, can you bluntly tell him to cough up the extra bit needed to secure vertonghen too, as we don't want to make the same mistakes twice.

    cheers flaspur <ok> ;)

Berbatov was class when he played for us and I don't think we have ever replaced him. His partnership with Keane will live in the memory for a long time. But, he also behaved like a complete arse towards the end and on occasions his behaviour was awful, so for me, I would not entertain the idea of him returning.
