To put it very very mildy, with all the anger towards a certain Mr Holt.

The amount of posts on here and other forums (and now I'm ading to it <doh>) slagging him off is just ridiculous. The guy has been Mr Norwich City for the last three years, and we would not be where we are today without him. If he leaves, for whatever reason, he will leave with my best wishes, and undying gratitude for what he has done for the club. He is a hero, a legend and a great leader of men. He led David against Goliath on many occasions and came out triumphant.

The fanbase should be behind him 100% with his decisions. People have said that if Lambert goes, he will go with thanks, and best wishes, so why not Holt?

Holt has given his all for this club, and if he wants to go for more mony, or he thinks he will get more 1st team action at another club, then fair play, you go for it. It may work out for him, it may not, but it is a risk that he must decide that he wants to take. If Norwich City football Club, can not or will not give it to him, why should he not look elswhere. People rave about the fact that we are now run like a business, and an effiecent business as well. In business decisions are made for the good of the company, not the employees. If NCFC thinks that Holt, is not worthy of what we all think he is, then thats not Holts fault. Moan at McNasty, or the Board, or Lambert.

If there is another reason for his wanting to leave, argument with a member of management, team mate, or something else like family life, then that is nothing to do with us, why should Holt have to explain this all over twitter, or facebook or in the papers. I wouldn't. If my boss was upset with my performance, or my wife was leaving me, or a colleague hit me, I wouldn't post it all over the net, and neither would anyone else, so why should Holt. He is trying to sort it out today professionaly and properley, with his employer. You can't moan about his timing either. He has done it early, so if does go we have time to replace him. If he done it towards the new season, we would be moaning that all the best available strikers had gone. Drury's testimonial should be about Ads, not Holt. Holt is not trying to take it over. If it becomes about Holt, that will not be Holts fault, it will the fault of the fans. Holt will not come out of the tunnel cheering or booing himself. If the fans of this great club and player, want it to be about Ads, then effing support him, and ignore Holt. How do we know that Holt hasn't told Ads he shouldn't play, and Ads has told him to not be a knob and get out there. Furthermore, Ads has said it will be a great chance to say goodbye to Hucks properly. I've heard no one moan about Hucks taking over the party.

So at the end of the day, give him a break, give him time, and give him your support. If it comes to it (which I hope to God it doesn't) give your warmest goodbyes and best wishes for the future, and if he comes back to Carrow Road against us, give a him a warm welcome and some healthy ribbing!

Peace be with Super Grant Holt. You will always be a legend for NCFC, why not another team as well!
 
i think the general consensus seems to be that most fans are philosophical about the holt situation to be honest. its only a handful who are acting like morons about it and very few on not606 i should add. i do not believe it is about money - its about staying here for the rest of his career and he wants reassurances and a longer contract from what i have heard - but even if it was to do with money, and i suspect he wants more too, people need to remember that although he is deemed wealthy by us, he in fact a pauper in terms of premier league players. he has done more than enough to earn some substantial money for the next two or three years to give him security. he wants that at norwich but i can totally understand why the club haven't started negotiating yet and why it may be a problem for them to give him what he wants. the club need to stick with their strict wage policy and offering large sums of money to a player who may very well not be a regular in our team next season, let alone in three years time, could be a risk. personally, i'm happy for the club to do whatever is right for the club long term rather than short term. holt comes a distant second in that respect.

To put things into my perspective. I enjoy my love for NCFC. I enjoy watching them play, at the game where possible. I back every player while he remains a player for us even if I feel entitled to criticise individual performances. I enjoy the thought they they are playing for my club.
However, if they genuinely want to leave, then I think they should go. I don't bear them any malice and wouldn't run them down afterwards but when they don't want to play for my club anymore, they are unimportant to me.
We have enjoyed many players contributions over the years and thats all it is. They played for my team and hopefully played well.
 
When one of the most frequent descriptors of Holt in the media is "former tyre fitter" you can see why he doesn't feel he gets the respect he is due. I was away when the story broke so haven't read the hundreds of posts on this story. I hope I am with majority in recognising that Holty has only got a short time to acquire a nest egg to set him and his family up for life. However this ends up he leaves with my gratitude for the last three years.
 
I don't mean to be funny but why should any player get a nest egg to set them up for life? Look these guys (mostly) don't reach 35 and suddenly are in a wheelchair unable to move yes they may retire from football but lets not kid ourselves that they can then go on and have another career in just about any field they may fancy. I know it's the state of the game and I am not blaming Holt for that or for doing what all the others do to maximise their income but lets be honest there's no real need, if he's on £15k a week that's my wages per year and I am a **** hot IT guru (modest too but it's true) I could go elsewhere like London etc or go work for a big company and be on >£40k with my skills and knowledge but you know what I like working 6 miles from home, I like living in North Norfolk and I like not having to work excessive hours. Now I survive on that money I won't pretend it's easy, it isn't but we manage so £15k a week there's plenty there to "retire" on if you use some financial common sense throughout your career.

Personally i'm sick of seeing these wages (not so much ours as that's not too bad) but come on >£250,000 a week it's just obscene, FA need to sort this out now!!

I dunno if I'm reading too much into it, but from mwhere I'm sitting, Holty would like to stay here and continue playing for us... BUT.... wants to ensure his future prosperity by securing a good deal to take him into his playing twilight years ..... he wants to do it at Carrow Road and statements by his agent imply as much without saying so. However, if he can't get the long term security he wants and his family needs then he'll put himself in the shop window where there will be at least half a dozen suitors, but I am convinced this would only be a last resort.

Whatever the outcome, any slagging off of Holty is moronic and will only add fuel to the "I'm not valued here" fire.

He has been our hero for the last three seasons (most of us voted him as Player of the Season for the past three years didn't we ?) and we shouldn't forget that. The recent episode has been handled clumsily and in today's 24 hour a day media spotlight has only amplified a fragile situation that could have, and should have been handled better by Grant's agent.

Whatever the outcome, Grant will remain a hero at CR - I only hope we can make it he stays in the yellow and green for another two years at least.

this is exactly what i've been saying is the hiccup here. now the only odd thing about it is that mcnally says he hasn't even begun talks with currently contracted players so i can only assume that something has been said off-the-record which may have been construed by holt as not offering the kind of commitment from the club he is looking for. if this is the case, as i've said all along, then holt and his agent have jumped the gun and the club are perfectly within their right to hold off until the time is right to talk. just because he is grant holt does not put him above everyone else in the squad - he needs to be patient. its only natural that he will want a bit more dosh after the past season - if its reasonable demands we should pay it but the problem seems to come when you think he's 31 and if he extends that contract for another two years he'd be 35 on massive wages. i totally understand why the club would be having to think long and hard about whether thats in the best interests of the club. never once has it crossed my mind that holt actually wants to leave the club - there is way too much evidence to suggest the opposite. likewise, the club are clearly not going to try and push him out, so the only logical explanation is that there is a problem with his contract.
