Which Player....

.....That we missed out on in the past was the biggest loss?

For me, Kezman will always spring to mind. I know he didn't set Chelsea alight, but I can't help think if he came to us he would have had happier times.

I also think the Japanese/Brazilian, Alex, would have been top quality.

 

Tim Cahill (to replace Scott Parker)

 

I heard a rumour we bid for Torres when we sold Parker... if that's true that's a miss and a half...

I think it all went cold when Everton came in. Richard Murray asked who he wanted to replace Parker, and he said immediately Tim Cahill. Negotiations were under way but suddenly the player cooled off and soon after he signed for the Toffees. It's all there in Curbs' book.

 

It was the player, it was the agent. The Tango-Man (Simon Jordan) also had problems with Cahill's agent and the 'fees' involved when palarse made an offer.

Was only about 19 at the time and wasn't exactly smashing them in.... Curbs with a spot, but like I said, I heard it before, I probs met Ackworth when i was younger

I also remember getting excited about Saviola. Frimpong on loan for league one would have been absolutely quality.

 

Jussi Jaaskelainen - was actually thinking of Antti Niemi who spent a month on loan with us in 1999 with a view to a £400,000 full time deal.

 

Wasn't Curbs looking at Ronaldo and Quaresma in 01/02?

 

Mine is Kevin Phillips... Prior to him leaving Sunderland for 1m and going to villa, we were heavily linked with him. For me he's one of the most underrated, under used (at international level) forwards of my generation. I would've loved to have seen him don our colours.

No chance mate. He signed a new one year contract with Blackpool prior to their loss to West Ham.

 

I recall we were trying to sign Mathieu Flamini, but were beaten to it by Arsenal. Imagine him anchoring the midfield...

 

Yep- us and everton were fighting it out for him, but arsenal swooped in at the last minute.
