You think that if Owen came he would score 3 goals? Errrr no.

I still think he has a point to prove and I am not sure of the reasons why he turned doen the loan moves. I cannot agree that Holt is a better player than Owen, sorry. Different yes. Better, no.

A fully fit Owen (with no pace now) over the course of a season is likely to score 10-15 goals, but he is almost certain to get injured. So 3 goals is likely in my book.

Don't forget that Owen is a really good poacher to. It's not all about pace with him, we could do with a finisher as we have struggled for composure in front of goal this season. Who's to say that he will be injured the whole season? It's impossible to predict.

I am not saying Owen is the answer but we could do with a finisher like him, what do you guys think of Yakubu? He comes accross lazy but he can bang them in.

Now, I know what you will all say, he isn't Lambert's type of player, but maybe some of our younger players need a role-model mentor that Owen would offer to the team, just think if all was well, how about a front two of Holt and Owen?

Owen, seems to be a good character in the dressing room, and still only 32. Can still score goals, but wants regular games. I know his injury record is very concerning but when you get this glowing endorsement from Sir Alex Ferguson:

"The Scot said: "It is a pleasure to have had Michael at Manchester United. "Michael is a consummate professional and was an influential figure in our dressing room. Unfortunately he had no luck with his injury this season. "Michael's record of goals per game is exceptional and we wish him all the best for the future."

Seeing as our squad is a very young one, with no experienced role models as such barring those who have played the last 2/3 years (e.g Holt), I think personally that it would be fantastic to sign Owen even if it is for just a season's basis.

1) The knowledge and help that he could provide to the younger players.

2) The practice that Ruddy/Rudd/Steer could benefit from, practising with a player who has been at the time a truly world class player.

3) He is clearly still ambitious, he doesn't want to go to the championship which would be the easy course of action for twilight career endings, but believes he can still perform at the highest level, whenever he is fit.

4) Wage-wise, I'm sure that if we might be able to tempt him. He is already loaded with £££, so I believe that his desire to play regular football will overcome this hurdle.

5) Holt/Morison/Jackson will all benefit from his tips and expertise in the striking department, lets not forget that when Owen was at his best, there were few better goal poachers out there.

Let me know what you think?[/QUOTE]

A bench warming, injury prone skiving scouser, that's what I think. Do you really want that bloke to come here and sit on the bench for £50,000 a week?
He's been at Man U for 3 years on something like £100,000 a week doing **** all. NO NO anr Thrice NO!

My point is, Owen could easily miss most of the season through injury, so it becomes irrelevent how good he is. I would rather have S Jackson. Owen also offers nothing but poaching, if you can't get Owen into the game you might as well play 10 men.

While agreeing we don't want or need Owen, I do believe we could do with a poacher.

I agree we could do with another good finisher, Owen is one of the best English poachers of all time. But current day Owen has expensive mistake written all over him. He is more than likely to get injured, I would rather spend the same money on 2 or 3 players wages rather than 1 player that is odds on to miss a large portion of the season.

It's all irrelevent anyway, Lambert would never sign him, he doesn't fit the mould.

Excuse me fellas but I think Michael Owen deserves a lot more respect than some of you are showing him on this thread. Since there's no question of him joining City, maybe we can just acknowledge a talented player whose very promising career was pretty much ruined by unfortunate and ill-timed injury. Also a good guy, as far removed from the Bartons of our football world as you could hope to get. I really don't understand why anyone would want to slag him off.
