Sad news today that Barry Hills 1992 Stayers Hurdle winner Nomadic Way, who also finished runner up in the Champion Hurdle, has sadly died at the age of 27.
If memory serves me correctly he also won a Cesaerwich and an Irish Champion Hurdle.
    Great horse, RIP

He raced as an entire Oddy and went to stud after his racing career ended, though I'm not convinced he produced any particularly prolific offspring he no doubt had fun trying !!!
Funny, I backed him when second in the Champion and watched in horror as he got his head in front in the Stayers hurdle when the world was convinced he couldn't stay.....

I remember him well as he was around when my enthusiasm for the sport was just emerging. I am amazed he has only just died it seems so long ago. I hope he had a peaceful retirement and was cared for as well as he deserved as those stayers are the bravest of the lot and really give a meaning to the phrase diggin in.

He has jogged the memory of a couple of other flat trained hurdlers from that time in Kribensis and there was a James fanshawe hurdler whose name escapes me but very classy over a hurdle i remember.

Seems amazing to think Sheikh Mohammed had a Champion Hurdle winner trained by Michael Stoute and carrying the famous maroon and white silks. I still wonder to this day what inspired them to try and do that - obviously not the money.

Was Royal Gait the Fanshawe runner? Or Alderbrooke?

Royal Gait and later Hors La Loir III - Alderbrook was Kim Bailey (I think)

Royal Gait was the Fanshawe hurdler i was thinking of , thanks for the memory jog Oddie.

I do remember Alderbrook fondly as well as he was the horse i opened my first betting account with to get the 40-1 ante post odds offered by William Hill, Did'nt have much on but few bets have felt better.
