Now, I know what you will all say, he isn't Lambert's type of player, but maybe some of our younger players need a role-model mentor that Owen would offer to the team, just think if all was well, how about a front two of Holt and Owen? :laugh:

Owen, seems to be a good character in the dressing room, and still only 32. Can still score goals, but wants regular games. I know his injury record is very concerning but when you get this glowing endorsement from Sir Alex Ferguson:

"The Scot said: "It is a pleasure to have had Michael at Manchester United. "Michael is a consummate professional and was an influential figure in our dressing room. Unfortunately he had no luck with his injury this season. "Michael's record of goals per game is exceptional and we wish him all the best for the future."

Seeing as our squad is a very young one, with no experienced role models as such barring those who have played the last 2/3 years (e.g Holt), I think personally that it would be fantastic to sign Owen even if it is for just a season's basis.

1) The knowledge and help that he could provide to the younger players.

2) The practice that Ruddy/Rudd/Steer could benefit from, practising with a player who has been at the time a truly world class player.

3) He is clearly still ambitious, he doesn't want to go to the championship which would be the easy course of action for twilight career endings, but believes he can still perform at the highest level, whenever he is fit.

4) Wage-wise, I'm sure that if we might be able to tempt him. He is already loaded with £££, so I believe that his desire to play regular football will overcome this hurdle.

5) Holt/Morison/Jackson will all benefit from his tips and expertise in the striking department, lets not forget that when Owen was at his best, there were few better goal poachers out there.

That said, he clearly has more sense in horse-training than Rooney, his came last out of 16 <doh>

Having just seen the players released (Wilbraham and Whitbread; both of which I have nothing but praise for their commitment to our cause, but I understand the decision)

I really hope that we lodge a shock £6m offer for Rhodes, face it the two areas of improvement are Striker, Central Defence and Right Back...and I can guarantee that 2/3 years from here, we will double or triple our investment. Sometimes a statement of intent needs to be sent out, and £6m should be line-hook-and-sinker for Huddersfield, who I'm sure don't want their pre-season disrupted by a bidding war.

Vaughan isn't working out at the moment, if Whitbread went because of his injury record, he at least PLAYED REGULARLY!!! Seriously Vaughan atm is a wage parasite, if we are going to keep him, at least loan him out for 6 months in the championship, because presently, I don't see him getting a game with Holt and Morison playing.
 
He'd break our wage structure for about 5 games in a season between injuries. We all ready have Vaughan on the Physios table most of a season. Really hope we get his problems sorted for next season, as I'd love to see what he's like in a run of games.
 
I'm sure I'm right in saying he once said he would rather sit on the bench for a big club than play regularly for a 'smaller' club. If that's true, we wouldn't want him, even if he's changed his mind.

If he didn't say that, I still think its madness we are even thinking about signing him!
 
Don't go there! Why waste money on someone who is not going to play? Would be a distraction.
 
PL and Norwich are about the future and building. I don't see where Owen fits in at all, it would at best be a distraction and it would be very short term. There is no point in considering this at all.
That said, to me he was a brilliant player in his day and one of England's best.

for the record, i wouldn't want michael owen anywhere near norwich city. he is no longer a footballer. the closest i'll allow him to come to our fine city is yarmouth races <ok>
 
It's a shame he has picked up this stigma of being a "big time Charlie".

I have actualy met Michael Owen about 2 years ago and he came accross as a very genuine and down to earth guy.

I also have an issue with people who are using the horse racing thing as a negative. I work and I must say I am one of the lucky few that actually enjoy my job, I also have various hobbies and interests and one of them is motor racing (got a track day car) and I also enjoy fishing.

What is wrong with a player having an interest outside of his job? I've never quite got that point of view? We are all humans and it's nice to have things other than work, right? Just because your a footballer doesn't take those thoughts away.

I like Owen and I think he may be a Lambert type of Player, a footballer who has had injury problems and has something to prove...........

Pay as you play.
 
Still can finish, but is he finished? I would rather get someone else as I expect he want to be on high wages and be injured 3/4 of the time
 
Holt is better than Owen now. Owen will bag you 3 goals a season if you're lucky, hardly money well spent.

I think Vaughan has been unlucky but you can see that he is class. Don't be too quick to write him off there is always this season. Whitbread was injured most of the first season we had him and I will admit that he never really had consistent run but without him things could of looked very different.

i agree with canaryf1 to be honest. owen relied heavily on his blistering pace. he doesn't have it now. he's been a shadow of his former self for about 7 years now. way, way past it and i'd be a little worried if we signed him, even on a pay-as-you-play deal. he's shown literally no commitment to play football matches. turned down loan moves, has stated he is unwilling to play championship football even if nobody else comes in for him...

My point is, Owen could easily miss most of the season through injury, so it becomes irrelevent how good he is. I would rather have S Jackson. Owen also offers nothing but poaching, if you can't get Owen into the game you might as well play 10 men.
