Just never bought into Villa being a desirable job. They have a very poor squad, little money for transfers and are cutting the wage budget. It was a good job a few years ago but times change and it would take large amounts of money and time to get them challenging for the Europa league places. Villa won't offer the money and are unlikely to give the new manager loads of time if things don't look up straight away. Plus the O'Neil situation it would be no surprise if PL turned them down.

Liverpool have approached Wigan and Dave Whelan has given Martinez permission to talk to them <ok>

I like martinez, he seems a great guy and does produce good football (if at the end of the season...)

But DO NOT expect Liverpool fans to be happy about it. They want a big name or someone that played for them

"Planet Liverpool"

They're not too happy with it on the Liverpool board. They think as Wigan have struggled that Liverpool will be relegation candidates next season! <doh>

It's not just the manager. Martinez has done his best with what he's had available at Wigan. He may therefore be able to do really well with the money and players Liverpool have.

Morons! How the **** do they expect a club like Wigan to be on even terms with Liverpool?

That's the whole point, if Martinez can do so well for a 'smaller' club - finances wise, apart from anything else, imagine what he can do given some wonga to invest.
Short sighted, Kop fans.

They were talking up guardiola, AVB and the special one this morning. They actually believed it as well!

With respect to Liverpool, who are a big club no doubt, these managers are looking for more progressive clubs. Martinez is a gamble, but I could see him being a fit, If he's given authority to do what he wants

Not surprising they have given this reacton when they were expecting Guadiola or Mourinho. I really, really doubt either would consider it given that Liverpool ended up 8th and don't look like improving on that. Yes, they're a big club, but they haven't really been a competitive top four side for a few years now so the quality of players and manager they have to choose from won't be as good.

Wonky Liverpool are a huge club the third or fourth most supported club on the planet! One poor season doesn't mask this fact and with their resources it would be a major pull for any top manager. Despite all the ribbing about Lambert he is not yet ready to manage a club like Liverpool but who knows one day!

Agree totally, it isn't Lamberts time yet. Liverpool are a big club, but they arent a stylish choice are they. Not as crisp and clean as a Man City or a Chelsea thats going to attract your "Armani Suit" manager

To be fair, they have finished 7th, 6th and 8th in the last three seasons, so they're hardly clear top four

They've been performing well below expectation for a few seasons now. Agreed Lambert isn't the right man for the job.

Liverpool are a big club, but they're slipping. Just look at Leeds, they cannot attract the same sort of players or managers as they used to and they're considered a big club.

A few 'scousers', I use the term loosely as fifty per cent of Liverpool 'fans' are glory hunting (that's a laugh) southerners, seem to think that asking permission to speak is just that, it doesn't mean to say that he's going to get offered the job. Hello, it's a pretty poor show by Liverpool (what do you expect though) if that's the case. <doh>

P.S. You may have gathered from this post that I cannot stand Liverpool. Reasons too many to mention but mainly because trouble followed them around in the 70's and 80's and their 'fans' were the main contributory factor in getting English teams banned from Europe. Hillsborough ? tragic, wouldn't wish that dreadful day on anyone and was Police's fault. Heysel ? Hmm, well that's another story.
