So much has already been said about PL on numerous threads and I was going to add my comments regarding Ian Culverhouse to the bottom of those until I realised that this is actually a major issue in itself...

Firstly - do you think Cully has any powers to sway PL and the decision he makes regarding his future?

Secondly - do you think he would up sticks and follow PL wherever he goes?

Thirdly - how many of you would like to see him take over the reigns if PL left?



To answer my own questions:

1. He must hold some influence over PL as the top man has constantly praised him and Gary Karsa for the work that they do. Is it enough to have any real influence? I'm not so sure.

2. I think he probably would follow PL, if nothing else for the massive pay rise he would be likely to get.

3. For all the tonnes of managers out there surely he has to be in the frame to succeesd PL. You would be mad not to give him a chance to prove what he can do. PL has already inicated that his analysis during games is of paramount importance as is his ability to cast opinions on potential signings, plus all the players to a man seem to love training. He knows NCFC inside out. He has been responsible for our upturn in fortunes as much as PL. The guy is NOT Bryan Gunn! As long as he can make the players realise that he is now the boss why couldn't he do it?

1. yes. lambert trusts culverhouse and karsa more than anyone else bar o'neill. however, sentiment won't come in to their decision so the fact ian is ex-norwich would make no difference
2. yes. they are a team. if lambert goes, they all go
3. no. i feel we would need a clean break. as i say above, he'd go anyway
 
1. I said on that thread that I think their opinion will make big difference, and Culverhouse knows how far this club can go more than most people.

2. I think he would probably go with him, unless he was offered manager job.

3. I think he would be good, and I think it'll help keep momentum and the dressing room. I think if he was to leave we need to try and keep as many of the staff as possible because what they are doing is right. When Wolves went for Terry Connor the reason they didn't succeed was because there wasn't much change at all. I think in a contrasting situation like our would be then it could work in a way in which we carry on doing how we have been doing.

I tend to agree with you YellowLittle. I think the guy is really underated and firmly believe that he could do an amazing job for us if given the chance.
 
Lambo, Karsa and Culverhouse are a closely nit team, I see them sticking together for years. If Lambo goes, they all go.

Not sure whether that's in reply to my post or just general statement. But I think if he was offered a managerial position he would be tempted to go for it, of course if he wants to get into management which I am assuming he does.

1. Of course they would have an influence, this is not to say that they would suggest he stay.
2. They would both almost certainly go. A new manager coming in would likely have their own people they like to work with and so it would be expected that they would go too
3. we could be getting into Peter Grant territory here. Great coaches do not always make decent managers. We have had our fingers burnt on this one before. I'd rather see a proven manager come in. Malky maybe???

If we were in the position where we need to find a new manager Malky would be top of my list. Completely agree, think similarties between him and Lambert, both sign hardworking young players, both praise players in media.

Lee Clark and Gus Poyet would also be on my list as well as Eddie Howe.

not in reply to you as such, more that everyone pretty much knows, at least i thought they did, that they are inseparable and the reason they work so well is because they each have such major roles. lambert for instance does little on the training pitch, culverhouse does 95% of the work there. lambert 'hovers' in the background for most of the time, until required - then they know who's boss. indeed, lambert isn't even in norwich half the week, such is the trust he has in culverhouse. split them up and nothing would work anymore, at least, nowhere near as well. in many ways they epitomise the team we have at norwich <ok>
 
I have no reason not to think that Culverhouse wouldn't follow PL but why can't he be a top manager in his own right. Sure we can bang on about loads of great coaches who have gone on to be awful managers. However, I can name a lot of good managers at one club who are terrible somewhere else. All too often football is down to the right time, right place.

All managers need to start somewhere, whether it is a youth team coach, first team coach or reserve team manager and then need a break. It all boils down to how much they want the extra responsibilitties of being the first team manager. Some prefer to stay in the background (Mark Bowen is Hughes' bitch and always will be!) whilst others prefer to test themselves like Brendan Rodgers.

Similar to Martin O'Neill and John Robertson, yet MON seems to be doing well with out him at Sunderland. I agree with what your saying completely but is Culverhouse reliant on Lambert? We don't really know whether Culverhouse has ability to motivate players. I think Karsa probably helps Lambert out with that side of it, so probably doesn't but I still think if Culverhouse would sacrifice the trinity if you like and separate from them if he was offered a managerial position. We don't really know if that's his ambitions, I wouldn't be surprised if it may be, but if it was they aren't inseparable.

well i can't say i've asked any current players, but i have spoken to a player who has played under them and he had nothing but praise for all of them but he felt they'd all be going to the very top together as a team, because thats what they are, a team. if you took one of them out their approach would not work at all

4 A question back, do you think David McNally would appoint Cully as Manager after the state they found the club in when the last ex player was manager?
 
I think he could be a good manager, but if and when he is ready to make the step up, I believe it would be better for HIM to have a fresh start, at a club where he could impose his own ideas, setup etc.

Welcome!

Fair points, I don't think it would matter that gunny was a poor manager. Culverhouse is incredibly talented in a way gunny isn't and has a proven management record. But some people are made to be managers and some are made to be assistants, maybe culvy is an amazing right hand man but not for full management.

I just hope it's not something we have to think about for a while
 
Well maybe if they are still here come the start of the season we can show our love for culverhouse at carrow road by singing his name as well as lambert!!!!
