No surprise to hear he has gone after all the rumours in the past few days. The sacking does lack class in my opinion. The owners made Dalglish and his assistant fly out to America. Why not tell Kenny to his face that he has been sacked rather than wait till he goes back to England to inform him via a phone call. Surely an Liverpool legend deserved better?
No the suarez was as bad as suggested and couldn't of been handled any worse- dont underestimate that affect in our brand globally. The records broken for worse this and that cannot be ignored, yes net spend isnt that great but the owners could have spend elsewhere and will now need to cough up to replace them. If I were them, with no historical connection to the club and looking for a return on investment, would of done exactly the same. What is key for me is the decisions they make now.
Kenny had no support from the board or the owners, he did the only thing he knows, backing his player like he has done throughout his managerial career. FSG needed to show decisive leadership in the Suarez saga, they didn't, they just let Ian Ayre, Luis Suarez and Kenny Dalglish take the fall for their lack of leadership and direction.
How do you no he had no support? Do you honestly reckon an issue as big as that would be silly left alone? I highly doubt that.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-owners-step-in-to-try-and-restore-order.html Luis Suárez future at Anfield in doubt as Liverpool owners step in to try and restore order They did nothing until February. This article says as much. They took 5 months to do something about an issue that had been clouding the club since October. Poor leadership.
Well from where I was standing the man I saw answering questions and taking all the flack was Kenny. Also the point raised before about Kenny uniting the vast majority of the fans even after such a poor league return (relatively speaking) is hard to underestimate. The one manager who could do that has just been unceremoniously booted out of the door because of bad PR and one poor season (in which we still got to two finals and won one). So was it the distance off the top which got him the sack? If that's the case then I really do feel we are on a slippery slope now. Any manager coming in will be on a hiding to nothing. Or was it the bad PR which got him the sack? If so this begs the question...does loyalty go completely out of the door with these people in the chase for the mighty dollar? If this is the case then I fear even more deeply for franchise LFC.
Yeah I suppose you're write. Do you reckon there was no contact at all for that period regarding tge matter? Very strange. This doesn't mean kenny is excused from the handling though.
So which is it? Kenny handled it with no support & buck stops with him or he had the owners backing/direction which means he can't be held liable for the PR fallout?
Agree with this. I won't be a hypocrite and say I did not want Kenny to go. I did want him to go by himself however rather than be sacked. The way it was done also lacked class. I haveno doubt that the gap between the club and the CL challengers was key. However, the way Kenny handled the Suarez affair did not do him any good in the eyes of the owners. I have to say IMO he handled it very badly. Kenny defended the player's actions without knowing the full truth and at every turn he found that the player was not exactly forthcoming with the facts and he took the wrong decisions. I think Kenny should never have been left to lead on this issue and it should have been left to Ayres to sort it. Anyway this is all in the past now and the club will have learnt from it. Circling the wagon on an issue like race nowadays is like committing suicide. I didn't see Kenny doing any better next season and it would have been a wasted one. Now at least we can start afresh, with hope. Rafa will be my choice if he is happy to come back.
League position, worse goals scored, worse home record.... It had to give. He'll always be a legend but, for me, this is where we see the true colours of FSG. Who are they going to appoint? I'd take Rafa back in a heartbeat but think that FSG want a "young man". I do hope they make the right choice. As a side note, I would have thought the majority on here would be glad to see him go, bearing in mind the negativity that greets every result?
The record breaking stats we have had this season simply couldn't be ignored - as many of said we wouldn't of stood for this with any other manager (as we didn't with uncle Roy). Even though last season was a tough one to take losing so many games, being out of the top 4 race so early on etc. I would like to thank King Kenny for not making it all doom and gloom by winning us our first piece of silverware in 6 years and keeping us all gripped until just a couple of games to go with the FA Cup run. Plus he brought in Suarez, Carroll, Coates who I think we will forever be grateful to him for doing. Thanks for bringing the fans back together. I would have a smile on my face if Rafa was brought back, I honestly can only see him getting us back up to the standard he set - his downfall was making it unacceptable to finish outside of 4th where as prior to rafa it wasn't that rare.
Martinez is a very intelligent and humble bloke, however I don't want him as manager! I think he will be a great manager in years to come, always thought that after watching him as a pundit years ago but its too big a step up for him imho! To be honest he is probably just about achieving what is expected at Wigan, no more and no less. He should be expected to be better than at least three other teams because they are established; if he was getting Wigan in the top half then maybe so but wrong choice for me. David Dein would be fantastic however!
It took Fergie 4 seasons at Utd. to turn them around & they never looked back. I hope FSG haven't caught Abramovich syndrome. Besides Rafa, Pep... I don't know who would be better, or more committed, to more than a year's salary as manager of LFC.
Although I would love to see Rafa back at the club, I can't see it happening as the owners are after someone who is younger (Rafa is 52 and I thought that was pretty young for a manager!). Also, I believe Ian Ayre was one of the people who wanted Rafa out during his first stint. Apparantly, Christian Purslow was reported to have said that we should get Rafa back!! Not sure if this is true but I couldn't believe it when I heard.
