So no one likes Schlaudraff? Thought he would be a pretty good option myself.

Heard we could be after Defoe for five million. Wages would not be too high as its capped at Spurs anyway. Just a rumour but he would be great alongside lambert.

Capped at spurs? You know their wage cap is about four times what ours is?

I've been thinking Defor recently. I don't think it's too unrealistic. Yes he'd have to take a paycut but it happens all the time fo rfootballers in his position/stage of career. If Spurs sign Adebayor and another striker (Elm has been linked) then I think it's realistic that they would let Defoe leave. Beyond that no doubt teams like Sunderland would be in for him with more clout than us but you never know with NC and that vision of his!

Defoe would not join us imo, as you have said if he left there would be other teams in for him, unless we paid over the odds.

We need a big striker that can hold the ball up, but it has to be someone who doesn't mind warming the bench as a Rickie replacement should he be missing.

Defoe is on about 60k a week, doubt we will go that high in wages. Tbh i wouldn't like to see players on that much, when we have Rickie on 25k etc.

Some interesting points on where we lie in terms of pulling power. I would hate this club to ever be finacially struggling so I dont want us paying silly wages (I also just hate the idea of 50k+ wages the club would loose touch somewhat in my eyes). I think the answer is young players desperate to play in the prem so looking at champ and league 1 hot shots. Then good hungry players from europe not yet targeted by the top teams. Finally a few senior pros with one last shot at the prem for some experience but not 'big names' so wages not high. This should give an exciting young squad with abit of maturity to surive without breaking the bank. Then we can grow organically hopefully with the academy providing the lions share of the first team. Thats the dream!

I think people need to be realistic. Yes we're on the up, but we're not there yet, and we can't attract top players. The kind of players we are being linked with (Jarvis, Trippier, Rodriguez, etc) are more realistic targets and would be good signings. They would demand comparable wages to our current players and they would improve our team.

I don't think we will be looking at established premiership players like Defoe. Adkins will be looking at players not yet fully established whom he believes can make the jump up, and who will fit in with the "southampton way"

Is Defoe the new Michael Owen? He was linked in January as well, and we have no hope in hell of getting him

Not a rumour, but, just a couple of realistic (I think) targets I wouldn't mind seeing Adkinized who would offer us a bit of EPL experience and I haven't seen mentioned:

    Dembele (Fulham),
    Odemwingie (WBA),
    Caldwell (Wigan),
    Bogdan (Bolton).

I think Dembele and Odemwingie would suit our style of football. Caldwell has hit some good form and Bogdan would be a good backup for SKD! As much as I respect Bialkowski, he scares the crap out of me when he's in goal.

With all the exciting rumours/suggestions circulating, I can't wait for this transfer window!

Is it bad that I thought Adkinized was a Spanish player?

Dembele has been linked with Man Utd. No chance there! Odemwinge signed a new deal last year after speculation linking him with a move away I think but could be worth a punt.

If Odemwingie leaves WBA it'll be for a team in Europe.

Oh I thought we were talking about a football team not a modelling agency.

    I think he's a good keeper, and he's young.
