has the sacking of Mcleish not been mentioned on this thread because:

    A) no one cares?
    B) Villa aren't deemed to be rivals?
    C) both of the above?

but yeah, he's gone. no surprises really.

    Hughton to take over?!

Villa have plunged in a couple of years because their team was was picked off by the Manchesters. They will lose what they made in transfer fees by revenue losses.

Bad news for the PL as a whole.

  3. It's sad what has happened to Villa. However, they will not be the last to cross the divide between the richest and the poorest clubs.

The only reason it won't happen to Chelsea is because their mad-dog Russian oligarch owner will pump in the millions needed to keep them afloat.

Did anyone think that McLeish wasn't going to get sacked?
It was just a matter of when it happened, wasn't it?

    Stupid appointment.

It was never going to work out. It often baffles me how guys like Lerner who clearly has a brain, can then turn round and make such a daft appointment in McLeish. This next appointment for Villa, has to be spot on, otherwise tehy are in real danger of falling out of the PL.

    Lerner's American though, SC.
Perhaps they don't have much in the way of local rivalries in sport?

It'll be interesting to see how they approach this next appointment.
Benitez seems desperate for a job in England, but he might want to spend decent money and I don't think that they're going to.
Perhaps a young, ambitious manager would do the trick, but it'd be a big risk.
A Bruce or a McCarthy and they're in trouble, I think.

  11. In no other business can someone who fails miserably in one job be headhunted and considered the ideal candidate for another, better job.

    McLeish to West Brom?

As for saying he's an outright failure, that's unfair - he did well at Motherwell and Hibs - which led to him getting the Rangers job - and he was doing a very good job in charge of Scotland, whilst he did have some success at Birmingham (leading them to ninth - their best finish in 50 years - and the Carling Cup win), although injuries and the usual post-CC win hangover a lot of teams have put paid to their season. True, at Villa he was a shambles, but considering their team has lost some important players and been unable to replace them due to their debts, whoever takes over is going to have a hell of a time reversing the slide.

That said, if McLeish replaces Harry, I riot...

How many of Ricky Gervais' films have tanked, yet he keeps getting work?

I don't think that any of them have actually made a loss, bizarrely.
There might be the odd exception that I've missed, but he's also been in some massively profitable films.
Night at the Museum and it's sequel made about $710m profit, in total.

I'm not a fan, but he does make money.

  20. I like Ricky Gervais. He's one of the very few comedians who can make me laugh out loud.
