Morning, all. Can I first say how touched I am by Redcar racecourse naming a series of races after me. Although, to be fair, I would have thought Listed or Group heats more appropriate.
Anyway, on a dull day, and in an effort ‘to turn those frowns upside down’, I’ll nominate:
Oldjoesaid (4.00 Redcar) – my regular readers will all know that this is one of my all time favourite horses of all time. Today he makes his seasonal bow and also has his first run under the care of old boy Midgeley. Oldjoesaid is a 5 time winner and a former top notcher (rated as highly as 107 when with Henry Candy – my second fave trainer, incidentally, with the Christian name Henry and surname beginning with ‘C’

but has dropped down the grades since, as age has caught up with him, and today he plys his trade in lowly selling company. At his best would give this lot a half mile start and still beat them and I’m full of hope that old boy Midgley, and new surroundings, can rejuvenate Oldjoesaid and we see a renaissance this afternoon. Has a bit to do on official marks but being a sentimental fool I think Oldjoesaid can defy his mark.
Martial Law (7.30 Towcester) – my regular readers were cheering at the top of their voices last Wednesday when this one was five lengths clear of his field, having put his rivals to the sword, approaching the last. However, the 5/1 vouchers that we held quickly turned to dust as catastrophically, and I do mean catastrophically, the old boy then bally fell. Off the same mark today (106) Martial Law should oblige with ease and although we won’t land the same sort of ‘coup’ as we would have done last week at least loses should be returned.
Good luck, one. Good luck, all.
