YOHAN Cabaye apologised for "out of character" scuffle with Tim Cahill which resulted in the Everton man being shown a red card.
But the France midfielder departed Tyneside after a successful first season full of praise for the supporters who have helped carry them into their best finish for eight years.
Cabaye was grabbed by the throat by Cahill after the final whistle but admitted he had spoken out of turn to the Everton man. âI would like to apologise for the cross words I exchanged with Tim Cahill which resulted in his red card and my booking on the final whistle,â he said in a club statement.
âIt was unnecessary and, regrettably, the result of frustration and disappointment, all in the heat of the moment. It is out of character and for that I am sorry.
âWe have had a fantastic season at Newcastle United and already I look forward to next season, the Premier League and the Europa League. Finally, a huge thank you to our fans who have been magnificent all season.â
