Now that the final whistles have been blown on this EPL season, I thought I would reflect on something that a Mouser wrote, in a post on their board, that if the "King" walks now he'll be able to hold his head high. So, I decided to have a look at what, if any records, the "King" will be recognised as achieving, in his first season for 'Pool. It makes for some incredible reading. Worst ever league finish in 53 years Equal worst ever home record Worst goal-difference since 1964 Worst ever striker purchased (Carroll's 4 EPL goals have cost 'Pool £8.75 million each) So, let's all congratulate the "King" on a fantastic year in charge of 'Pool, and let's pray that the Yanks really are stupid enough to permit the old fool to continue
Oh, and let's not forget another record:- This is only the second season in the EPL when Everton have finished above 'Pool
And yet 'Pool have still had a better season than us (if Chelsea win the CL) imo. They've won a trophy, got to the final of another - they'll be in the same European Cup competition as us. If Bayern win and we get to the CL then I'll say we've had a slightly better season than 'Pool - but only just.
Moorpheus... well done, you even managed to turn this thread into a dig. Seriously, would you be happy if we didn't get CL if Harry went? Do you want what's best for Spurs or what you want to happen? Can you concede that this might not be the same thing?
The last three times Everton finished above Liverpool: 1987 (Everton 1st, Liverpool 2nd) 2005 (Everton 4th, Liverpool 5th) 2012 (Everton 7th, Liverpool 8th)
What I want is what's best for Spurs - I want us in the CL next season. I want our top players to stay and perform well. If the above involves Harry staying - great. If the above involves harry leaving - fine - if we're in the top tier we should be able to attract a good manager. Yes we've finished 4th and we had a decent cup run - if you'd offered me that at the start of the season I'd have taken it. But we shouldn't ignore the fact we've allowed 3rd place (which was pretty much nailed on) to slip. I'll be a different guy tomorrow - I'm just venting (I know a fair few Arsenal fans who aren't missing today's opportunity...). Plus I'll be a relived guy if Chelsea lose the CL
Liverpool finished 8th with 52 points - we finished 4th with 69 points, sorry but, seriously, Liverpool has had desperately dire season, though to be honest they did over achieve in the cups. Look at their resources and compare them to ours, they under achieved and we did what we consistently do, entertained and satisfied the fan base. LFC, complete with their abhorrent new strip = Liverpool Failure Club.
I still think that Carroll can be a very effective striker, but Dalglish has totally misused him and damaged his confidence. I don't understand what the thinking was behind a load of their signings, though. There doesn't seem to be much balance to their squad and they don't seem to have a playmaker of any quality.
HIAG next season you got to bury this hatred for Pool unless it concerrns us...lol I wouldn't say they have had a better season than us....we still had something to play for in our last match....they stopped playing in February...I do not want seasons like that at WHL ever and no Carling cup win would mask such a plight for my team.
Vim with regards to you wanting what is best for Spurs. It's quite possible that someone might disagree with you,yet still want what is best for Spurs. Personally I think you don't expect much of us..almost to the extent where i think your married to a Villa fan and your just happy with the dizzy heights of 6th. Give the club credit, it has evolved and we aim high...infact so high that even in defeat we want to feel echo's of glory. Now I sound like some deluded fan
Sorry, I've accidentally wandered into Kennyworld where 8th is as good as 4th. Or is it some ghastly nightmare, where like school sports, nobody does better than anybody else in case they get upset?
Exactly, Chirps! It's not just that we finished 4th to 'Pool's 8th (and that equates to a fair amount of cash, I believe, so is certainly "better" than 'Pool, regardless of CL footy next season), but it's the fact that we've finished 4th, 5th, and 4th in our last three seasons, and have closed the gap on Arsenal in each of them. I know I've given Redknapp stick over the past dire run of 10 games, but that was mainly me venting frustration. I'm sure that, when I look back on this period in our beloved club's history it will be with pride. 'Pool, on the other hand, really do have absolutely nothing to cheer about. We will be favourites for a top 5 finish next season. They are no where near competing at that level. Again, that is another reason why our season has been so much more successful than 'Pool's. We are all frustrated that we didn't finish comfortably in 3rd, whereas they are all applauding the "King" for winning the Carling Cup. How the mighty have fallen, and how times have changed (since the 70s and 80s, when 'Pool were last a big club).
Seems "King" Kenny has flown to America to explain to John Henry what a fantastic season Liverpool has had.... Good luck with that!
