According to the Muslims, Jesus was a minor figure.

And their religion and historical records go a lot further back than Christianity.

    No they don't ST.

The prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, died in 632.

Jesus is a major prophet to them.

    Another classic.
He supposedly became a bit more well known than just a son of a carpenter so why wouldn't there be contemporary accounts of him?
The most great and wonderful Maggie Thatcher won't be remembered as the daughter of a green grocer...

Don't you understand, this is the exact reason why it's so amazing that he's so well known! Nothing was produced about him whilst he was alive, yet he is still the most famous person ever to have lived!

    Quite.

She rose to a position of great power within her lifetime.

    Not a good analogy

If you look at the scripture, it was Magi, who were astrologers.

Is he more famous than Mohammed? I'll take your word for it.

Anyway, what does the fact that he's well known prove?

I knew a guy who used to freak out Jehovah's Witnesses with that story of the 3 guys following the star to the stable in Bethlehem. His argument went that it's impossible to follow a star. A ship can set its course by a star, but to actually use a star to guide you to a specific location on the ground is clearly ridiculous. It can't be done. On the other hand, if there was a moving light in the sky a couple of hundred feet above your head, it would be possible to follow that. In Biblical times, the only thing which could have done so would have been a UFO. Jesus must therefore have been the child of aliens.

At this stage, the bible-thumpers would usually make their excuses and leave. The weirdos don't like being out-weirded.

the magi talked of the star. The story of the birth of Jesus fulfilled a number of OT prophecies.

You do realise the story of Jesus was stolen from earlier fairy tales?

Similar one I read elsewhere regarding Noah and his ark "what happens to freshwater fish if you put them in sea water?".
