Stats would suggest Morgan does nothing. Which couldn't be further from the truth.

Yep, but there's a defensive side to playing in the midfield too. That's just typical, to only see the obvious.
When Jarvis played, they only won 13% of the time, their success rate nearly doubled when he didn't! Which is pretty significant ( as you rightly say, when you're talking about a team comfortably bottom of the Prem ). Their loss rate reduced by 10% also when he was not playing.

These figures are not the be all, but they do help to give a slightly more comprehensive view of his contribution ... perhaps?

No, if you apply the same principles to Morgan, he makes for good reading. Not as good as Chaplow, but still good.

Anyone follow the German leagues heard of Jan Schlaudraff? He plays for Hannover as an attacking midfielder and is quite quick. Should cost 3-4 million. Think he's been called up for Germany once or twice, but may be wrong on that.

EDIT: Lived in Hannover for a year in 2011, and also came across this guy:
Striker called Mohammed Abdellaoue, very fast and has a great finished, would be quite expensive though, captain and top scorer.

Which still highlights the unreliability of some stats. Morgan is far superior to Chaplow in pretty much everything.

I can't argue with your subjective point of view, Jake. And neither do I want to.
If that's what you see, then that is what will be true for you.

Adkins seems to know all the stats better than anyone, so if he thinks Jarvis is worth going for, he's good enough for me.

The point about Chaplow is well made, he brings a lot of energy and continuity to our play, although he doesn't do much that stands out. The game isn't played on paper though and win % doesn't tell the whole story. For example, if united played Rooney in goal he'd have awful stats, but he'd still be worth buying!

Apparently he's played 36 Prem games this season, so does that mean those stats are based on him missing one game?

He's started 30 this season, Saint Lambden, not getting the green light in 12. Yes, he has come on as a substitute.
But to try and emphasise my point about defensive duties, the last two games he didn't start in were Sunderland and Everton.
They kept a clean sheet in both.

I'm not saying he's a bad 'un. Just sharing some stats which I thought made for interesting reading.
Let's not forget Wolves were relegated. Are there any already established Premiership teams going for Jarvis? I don't know?
It would be heartening to think he was sought after by a top flight club or two, given that he has been advertising his ability there for 9 months or so.

I'm not saying there is definitely something in it, just that there might?

Granted, 'pass the football', but only if you put him between the sticks every week.

And you're right, it doesn't tell the whole story, not by a long way. But I kind of hoped it might help to tell the whole story.

Just thought I would share.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...re-poised-to-move-for-Wolves-Matt-Jarvis.html

There's 2 I found by quickly googling. Granted the 2nd is an old post but still, he has been wanted by top clubs and is a top signing for a newly-promoted club.

"Let's not forget Wolves were relegated" - Well you could say that Schneiderlin and Lallana would always be crap and not good enough for the Championship based on that statement then.

Same goes for the players we had when we left the Prem. Niemi did alright afterwards in the Prem, Pahars was useless as he was also in a relegated team? And the Championship relegation season too... Davis, Skacel, Svensson etc.

Stuart Holden? In the event Bolton go down would be a top buy IMO.

Totally agree although he seems to be an injury magnet.

Doing The Lambert Walk ...

Good find. The Pulis one that is. At least it has a quote.
You gave me a good chuckle with the other one.

With regard to Surman ...
He did well for Norwich at the tail end of the Championship season, and has started about half of their games in the Prem.
So I guess you would classify him as a squad player.

With regard to Spiderman and Lallana ...
Next season we'll find out. I sincerely hope they turn out to be decent.
But they're probably not in the same league as Bale, Walcott and Chamberlain.

Lallana and Schneiderlin will be fine in the premier league.

Trust me, Morgan and Lallana will be fine. They've looked a class above for years now. Morgan's technical ability will fit just fine in the Premier League.

And he's French, so yeah...

Nick Powell showed some great touches in the match yesterday and a very good range of passes.
Crewe impressed me with there overall work rate too. I hope there manager still speaks well of us and the area.

So Jarvis doesn't really defend, fair enough, neither do a lot of the better attacking players. I don't think that presents too much of a problem if you have a plan to cover their arses. Wolves evidently didn't.

Taking this thread slightly off track and to tactics. Saints play two defensive central midfielders which help to allow the wide players to roam. So we have tactics in place to allow a player like Jarvis. Would you prefer us to keep these tactics or get a more attacking central midfielder on board?
