I can understand why Harry wanted to try him in different roles, he's potentially dangerous anywhere on the field. Of course, you're right, he's no midfield general. His strengths are his pace and power. His crosses are usually spot on, too. I'm sure that given time he will add more weapons to his armoury. I doubt, however, that dictating midfield play will be one of them.
I now think me using Modric wasn't the best example, when Bale moves to the centre its more where VdV would be, but again VdV reads the game brilliantly from there. He's already one of the best wide players on the planet, I'd like to see him concentrate on being the best! Robben has 18 goals in 34 games, Bale 12 in 41 would suggest he has some way to go despite the hype.
