The launch of the new Liverpool home kit has prompted an angry response from a number of the families of those killed in the Hillsborough disaster.

The club's home shirt for the 2012-13 season, designed by American company Warrior, was revealed on Friday.
Fans have welcomed the design, but the decision not to consult some families over the decision to move the symbol honouring the dead, has angered many.

The Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC) said the actions were "insensitive".

The new shirt sees the club's logo, which featured an image of the Shankly Gates, replaced by the original Liver Bird crest that became synonymous with Liverpool's success in the 1970s and 80s. As a result the two Justice flames honouring the Hillsborough campaign have been moved to the back of the shirt.

The decision to move the flames is not the source of frustration but the decision to only consult one Hillsborough group has sparked anger.

Liverpool did take time to meet with the seven members of the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) committee but other groups were not consulted.

The HFSG was the first group formed after the disaster in May 1989 and provides support for many of the bereaved families. The HJC also acts for a number of the families but its priority is to fight for the truth behind the events that took place at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989

A HJC statement read: "We have noted that the Hillsborough flames and '96' will now appear on the back of the shirt 'after consultation with family members'.

"We can confirm that no bereaved families of the HJC were contacted or consulted. The first we were aware of this was via the minutes of the Supporters' Committee March meeting. Once again LFC has chosen to ignore the HJC and their families.

"The continued refusal of the club to acknowledge the HJC is insensitive, divisive and deplorable - 96 is more than a number. LFC would do well to remember that."

Liverpool moved swiftly to defend their part in the process and claimed they had made every effort to deal with the issue as sensitively as possible.

A spokesman said: "The club consulted with the HFSG committee and shared a number of alternative designs which were considered.
"The committee selected a design, which includes the number 96 to recognise those who lost their lives. Nobody has more respect for the 96 and their families than this football club."

FFS indeed Commachio. Now I think I'm one of the few who don't really hold any malice towards Dalglish or Liverpool football club. But I am sick to death of this ****. I don't want to be insensitive but this is just getting farcical and its time to move on from Hillsborough. That doesn't mean they're forgotten but at some stage you have to move forward and stop looking back, getting upset over anything that is mentioned or actioned in relation to it.

    This... 100%
Dalglish is a twat and is a manager i have < zero respect for

Over 20 years has passed since that awful tragedy. I'm guessing Bradford have moved on since Valley Parade although i guess Liverpool will claim Bradford are a smaller club so they should move on quicker?

Thing is lads how much of this is the actual families and how much is it the pressure groups who when all this is sorted (hopefully soon for the families sakes) will have nothing to do?

Echoing some of the comments already, it's time to put this awful tragedy behind us all now. I have every sympathy for the families, I never buy the Sun newspaper because of the dreadful journalism. But there has to be a line drawn.
The Hilsbrough groups can't expect to be consulted on everything.

This is yet another thread involving LFC and it stinks of me,me,me. I am heartedly sick of hearing about the Hillsborough tragedy, yes it was awful but when if ever are these people going to move on.
Unlike some I actually think a lot of this tragedy was self induced, its funny we never hear anything from the scousers about the Hysel tragedy, is it because they couldn't find a scapegoat in the guise of the South Yorks Police to blame for that one.
There have been many tragedies at Football matches including Bradford and Rangers but these clubs deal with these anniversaries and move on, its just a pity LFC supporters seem to want to fight tooth and nail to keep this in in public eye.
I live in the north west and you wouldn't believe how many times in a twelve month period this episode manages to make the local news.
    Move on for god sake.

I recall saying something similar a while back and being accused by Shameless of talking out of my arse !

I don't think it was all the fault of the scousers by any means and am no fan of South Yorks Police but they have consistenly taken the high ground and accept zero responsibility for any of it. Disasters like this are horrendous but rarely the fault of just one individual or organisation.

Surely time for the scousers to move on ?!
