Got to admit. If I was offered a massive pay packet to move abroad and do my job on a 3 year contract, as much as I love England, you wouldn't see me for dust. Does that make me a mercenary as well? I wonder how many of you would do the same.
They do the job they are asked to do for the most money possible. Sound very similar to a mercenary, I fulfilled my contract with the employers, did my best and got paid more than I did at my last employer.
i think you'll find the vast majority of people will go for the money over loyalty. however, just because you take the bigger salary does not automatically make you a mercenary if you still do your very best and are not SOLELY in it for the money
Football as with most other sports is about trying to better yourself. That could be medal wise, ambition, nice area or just more money. Matt Le Tissier, while probably on a decent earner at Saints, ignored moves for whatever his motives were. Carlos Tevez has his reasons. In a perfect world, we would admire the former and condemn the latter. But the game has no morals or scruples so its difficult to blame an individual for his choice.
