Martin typifies the problem of getting youngsters into the team. I think he has done very well but we bought someone who is better at this moment in time. I don't know how any youngster gets to break into the team if we just go out and buy someone better all the time. This problem is even greater in the Premier League with the huge pressure on getting results.

Do we loan them out, do we play a reserve team? I really don't know what the solution is. Martin and the others need top flight experience to improve but we are unable to give it to them.

Maybe Godders. My point is though we don't know so why are people writing him off. He's young and is still learning.

In a lot of cases it is just a few jumping on the band wagon of "who shall we talk down today" He is indeed young and is still learning his trade but he will not get better unless he is played more regular. In my opinion that means Saints need to enter the PL reserves league. This will give players like Martin a chance to improve their game. When ever he has played he has not let himself or the side down. You cannot ask more of a player.

If Martin is rated by the management, surely that's good enough

They know better than we all do surely! Personally, I'm a big fan of Martin, and I know he's going onto great things for us!

I honestly don't think he will make it as a Premier League player and will probably end up finding himself at a championship/league 1 level. He's not got the attributes to make it as a top player.

Maybe it's because he came from non-league with no big fee. But whatever the reason, some people really don't like him and get very unhappy when he plays. For that reason alone I am a big fan.

I cant see how anbody on here can critise Aaron Martin at this stage of his career - as various people on this thread have said, he has never let Saints down when he has played thus far. He is only a kid for goodness sake and needs some time to get some experience. From watching him play in a few games i cannot see how any of the ' amatuer managers' that we have on this site can tell if he will be a top player or not as yet.
Martin loves Saints and as he is a local lad that means a lot to me when i see him in a Saints shirt.
As for being compared to Mark Wright - whoa, way to early for that, but if so we will have to hope that he doesnt get into a dressing room punch up with Nigel, as per Wright v Laurie Mac !

Let's not forget, Ian Wright broke through to professional league at a late stage in hsi career, and he wasn't the only one

Did any of you go to the Rochdale home game? Seeing him getting torn a new one by the mighty Chris O'Grady was painful.

And skinned by St. Ledger (I think, it was defo a Leicester CB). I just don't think he has the attributes to make it. His speed and turning circle are horrific, his heading isn't brilliant for someone with his presence and his decision making is questionable. I expect him to be sold or loaned out.

Glad im not the only sane poster on this board. Just because he is a local lad and loves playing for the club does not make him good enough. Not to mention he is dreadful with the ball at his feet.

He got man of the match that day. He was superb in that little run, ableit in a bad side

You seem to know quite a lot about this local lad, has any one heard what he was told in his managers meeting last week ?
Is he to be considered for the 25 man team next season in the prem or if he has been advised to find himself a loan team for a season. I think from what people were saying all players had meetings with management and they should know what to expect
next season. I hope the lad does get a chance but not sure as yet with new signings speculated.

Bearing that in mind, Hammond is on Player talking about next season so, not surprisingly, looks like he's staying.

Not sure how it works but with only 25 named squad then surely a few players will need to go out on loan.

Do you think the players would of been told at their meetings with Adkins ?
