Steve Morison appreciation thread!

I was speaking to a Buuuuuuurnla fan on Sunday and he says they turned down silly money at the start of the season, apparently Saints offered £6M among others, and he thinks they will be taking the same attitude in the obvious negotiations to take place.

Morrison is clearly a confidence player and hopefully that goal will do him a world of good. I've thought and said in here a couple of time that I thought he might leave in the summer because he has looked unhappy, especially with the fans booing him and getting on his back. If he wants to stay I'd love him too, anyone who gets 9 goals in the Premiership is worth holding on to. Was really pleased Steve today and clearly the players were too in the way that they reacted.
Jackson also had an incredible game on Saturday. Really hassled the defence, pulled them away to give holt room. 3 upfront for villa would be interesting.

i'd look unhappy if i was booed by my own fans. i too would probably not feel i should chase lost causes. the fans who have got on his back may well end up forcing a perfectly good striker out of our club. hopefully that won't be the case and he can get some form back for next season. we are better off with him than without him

jackson was outstanding by the way - such a shame his finishing let him down. i'd stick with him and holt against villa and leave morison on the bench to bring on later.

I've been appalled at the reaction to Morrison at time this season. He's a good striker, he just picks his battles, if he doesn't think he will get to a ball he won't chase it, where holt might and occasionally might get there, but when he sees one he can get on the end of he busts a gut for it.
I've come to really like Simeon and wish he had had a more settled time in the team. Sounds like there is quite a bit if interest in him from the championship but I really would like him to stay too.
With regards to wilbs I think a coaching role at the club would be perfect for him, maybe after another year on the playing staff with a contract that offers him a role in a year.

i think watching holt has become a problem! some city fans believe that because he chases every ball that others should do so too!! it doesn't work like that i'm afraid - morison is a completely different player and individual and therefore shouldn't be deemed by some to 'not be doing what holt does'. he doesn't chase every ball - so what? i very much doubt he is told to do so either

Morison reminds me of big Iwan in how their first seasons panned out, with the exception that Morison has scored far more goals than Iwan did in his first full season for us - and that was at Championship level! Nobody can argue that the Roberts turned out to be an absolute legend but I can clearly remember a very large section of the crowd who thought he was total garbage that first season.

Why? because he was carrying a persistent niggling injury and his fitness suffered as a result which led to a drop in sharpness that led to a drop in form and the negativity that followed. Once he was fit for the start of the next season he never looked back.

It has been brought to everybody's attention that Morison has been playing with a persistent niggling injury since January and at Premier League level a 5% drop in fitness will be ruthlessly exposed.

All I'm pointing out is don't write him off yet. When in on goal and when not needing to do too much thinking he has shown he is pretty lethal. Getting into double figures in his first season at this level is pretty good going. Next season he will hopefully start afresh, fit and healthy and put any lingering form and dissenters to bed.

i think you're right about his strength too - if he acts on instinct he can be excellent - not so good when he has time to think about things. his injury and drop in form probably mean he is acting less on instinct anyway and the reaction of fans towards him won't help him act on instinct either!

everybody on here knows where i stand on the morison debate. i think to say he's been treated unfairly by many supporters is putting it mildly to say the least - he's a footballer; he's not super-human; and he will have dips in form. however, equally, i don't believe he should suddenly be lauded by the 'i've always supported morison' brigade because he scored again - he is still, as far as i'm concerned, struggling for form but hopefully his goal will give him a renewed confidence heading into next season. calls for him to be offloaded were ridiculous - the guy is a good striker and currently sits 22nd in the premier league top scorers list!

if you are a club who is likely to be striving for survival again next season you DO NOT flog someone who can score goals at this level unless there is a much, much better alternative available. hopefully some people will get off his back a bit now and give him some more support - he is a complex character and the grief he has received has done him nor the club any favours since february. i didn't like him doing it but i totally understand why he did the 'ssshhh' at the fans but lets draw the line there and get behind ALL our players in future - they are there to win games for OUR club

My thoughts are also fairly well known on the Morison debate,........but I agree with most of what you've written. I have complete faith in Paul Lambert and if he has faith in Morison then who am I to argue, but unless he scores 15/20 goals next season he will still have his doubters, that, I'm afraid is a fact!
By the way I'm glad he fought back against the "Canary call thingy's", it didn't do him any harm!

i mean, anyone who seriously thinks that he is capable of scoring 15-20 goals a season in the premier league need to have their heads examined! even holt is struggling to do that. i just get the feeling that some people make their minds up about someone and then refuse to change their minds no matter what. i really can't see the point of that! i have had my doubts about elliot ward since we signed him and i still struggle to see a long term future for him but if he plays well i'm delighted - i get the feeling if morison plays well some will say its not enough for them. i think back to the stick that ruddy and russell martin had to endure in the first few months with us... at least they managed to win them around. i really don't think morison has done anything wrong - ok, he hasn't played that well since february but he has been injured and he has had a knock in his confidence but he's not actually played that much since then as others have come in and done a decent job. obviously we have had one or two, shall we call them spats, on here but i genuinely don't believe for one minute that you want morison to fail - you want him to improve, but some fans aren't prepared to give him a chance anymore.

He's going to have to do something special next season to qwell the doubters, but I'm afraid your last line may turn out to be prophetic, personally hearing the things I do at games, he hasn't got a hope in hell.
Correct, I certainly don't want him to fail, I want him scoring goals, being part of the team I support and love and only want the best for.

Some fans I sit near are morons so I don't like to listen to what they have to say. A person behind me booed the team after the defeat to Liverpool which was pathetic given how brilliant Suarez was. You can't really always expect to get something from Liverpool, even if they have had a poor season.

Must say I was a bit disappointed with morisons comments about being subjected to abuse. The comments in the BBC story certainly came across like he was tarnishing us all with the same brush. I think he has been superb this season and has obviously been playing through the pain barrier for us. A lot of sides have spent far more with much less return. His form tailed off a bit but lbert wouldn't pick him if he was causing issue or if there was some big conspiracy about his form. I'd like to see everyone get behind him and support him giving his all for the club.

Just think he shouldn't make an enemy of the fans though and keep his head down. Best way to silence the critics is to prove them wrong on the field, as he did against arsenal.

agree with that. i too think he probably shouldn't have said anything - his 'ssshhh' gesture was perfectly reasonable though. i think its obvious though that the fans abuse has affected him because otherwise he wouldn't have felt it necessary to make a point about it. i've heard some very embarrassing things come from the lips of norwich fans about morison - i hope they feel as embarrassed as i did hearing them but somehow i doubt they do.

Probably a lot worse - just look at Blackburn. In my opinion, it wasn't Kean who relegated them, it was the fans. Had they of had 25,000 with them instead of against them every week, they would have stayed up. They should be more ashamed than us - well, those of us who haven't booed Morison anyway - criticism away from the pitch is all part of the game though.

By the way, I hate to keep bringing this up, but didn't Jackson have a good game at Arsenal on Saturday? I must sound like such a smug bastard, but when you were all giving him stick last season I kept saying he'd come good. Haven't been quite as supportive of Morison this season, but there are lessons to be learnt.
