I have a feeling that we wont be seeing Cisse at the gate next season. To say he wants to keep his options open just says that he is looking else where as surely if he wanted to stay he would have put pen to paper by now. I guess for him he wants first team football and we cannot guarentee that he will as we have much competition in the middle with players like Skuse, Elliott and Pearson (and unfortunately Kilkenny). I guess if he is to go that could free up some money to bring in a new creative style midfielder which might be DM plan. Cisse has been a great player over the last few seasons and some would argue he should have got player of the season this year going on what some have said but I think his time may be up.
IMO should be one of the first on the teamsheet....if we can't guarentee him a place in our side, there is something very wrong with the setup.
I think it's more to do with him being able to find a better club than us rather than that we have better CM options that him...
You all know I think he is a very good player, but no pro footballer can or will ever be guaranteed a place in any team. His professionalism throughout the summer has been questioned before, but yes I would love to see him back, the only true DM we have at the club.
Cisse is the pick of our midfield players - not that it is saying much. I think McDel realised this but Cisse has a hankering to return to Le France. Still, not too worried by this, as we are about to begin a new journey with new players. Going on what McD has given us and what he has said, I reckon they will be a solid unit
Marvin ruptured his Achilles. Nasty injury that. Wonder when he is likely to be fully fit again and what the chances are of it stopping him from getting back to his pre-injury level of performance??
He's never been that great since the first season in the championship. Should have sold him to Wolves when we had the chance of making a decent profit on him.
Indeed I also prefer elliott, he has more to this game, granted cisse gives us a greater presence at the back but ask yourself this, if he is so good why are we so far down the league, Yes he is good but not good enough to miss, I wouldnt have more than 3 players from the team who played barnsley and the rest of the squad in my starting 11 next year, we need quality, and sadly we dont have it, a lot needs to be done
We're this far down the league because one decent midfielder doesn't make up for what the rest of the team are doing. Cisse is massively underrated because he plays the Makelele role, ask anyone who follows Chelsea or Real Madrid how important having that kind of player was to them. Cisse is a very classy player, passes better than Marv, better control than Marv, reads the game better than Marv... You get my drift. No tears shall be shed if Elliot leaves over the summer from me. Marv is behind Cisse, Skuse and Pearson in CM as far as i'm concerned.
The problem with Marv is he over achieved in his first season and its been hard for him to get to that form again plus playing in the middle with LJ made him look even better when u compared the two. I have been impressed with him getting further forward and scoring goals but he should score more with the chances he gets. I do rate skuse and cisse above him and think we need another first choice midfielder in there which would also be above him. I would love to have a player similar to tom cairney or owen garven
I do agree he's added goals to his game but I just feel that's come at the expense of his overall play. He charges up the field, misses a shot/cocks up a pass and then leaves a massive gap behind him that gets exploited, also prone to losing the man he's supposed to be tracking through the middle. He could learn an awful lot by watching the way Pearson moves into space and anticipates passes. A far more intelligent player.
I've heard this from city fans for the best part of four years now. Thankfully, this is the first time we've had someone in charge that seems to notice the glaring issues in the squad, so hopefully McInnes will be on the case and will provide an intelligent midfield player that can create for us.
As mentioned above.......won't be to upset if Marv leaves the club. He has only been average at best since his first and second seasons with us and playing in a (mostly) poor midfield made him look better than everyone else with him.
Marvin Elliot is still our No1 CM. Imagine playing against him, that's always the best way to judge a player. Marv hasn't shown his first year Championship form as playing alongside Junior nearly killed him. I really hope Marv comes back to his best but it won't be his latest injury that holds him back it will be the 10,000 miles he covered for LJ. Ps - LJ Update - I see he's now a bench regular at Killie. Didn't take that Sunday League outfit long. And they've got him for another 2 years - Priceless.
