I'm not familiar with this term, so not sure if it's scouse in origin, but a scouse lad I was talking to today had seen the game on Saturday and was full of praise for Saints, notably Morgan, Lallana, Cork and the two strikers. But he added we needed a couple of "yard dogs". In other words a couple of big hard pros who take no prisoners to allow the likes of our young skilful players to play (OK Rickie isn't young, but you get the point). Thoughts on the idea and who would qualify now that Robbie Savage has retired!
We could tempt Roy Keane into it? He loves ending footballers career's, so i'd imagine he falls into a 'Yard Dog'
I think we need to sign Ben Thatcher and bring back David Prutton. That would be a pairing with a, ahem, direct approach.
Strewth if you are going to bring in older players that can tackle then none better than Cliff Huxford, or even shove David Peach into midfield......or is that going a bit too far back....
I love our style of play but defence needs stiffening. We should have taken the title at a canter. We have been the best team in the league for the last two seasons and finished second both times. Don't get me wrong...a huge achievement, especially last season. Almost every game we have had very scary moments...look at first 10 mins on Saturday. Next season we will be playing teams who will take advantage. Don't pretend to know the answer, because I want us to combine our attacking attractive style with an old fashioned Arsenal back four...don't want a lot, do I?
Sadly hardly any but at the timne it was highly entertaining. Used to stand in the East Stand having bets oon how many players he could knobble before he got booked! A great charachter.
I wouldn't say he does. He'll be more of a detriment in the prem in my opinion. I don't think his mind thinks quickly enough when on the ball which is a negative for the team, no matter how much he charges around. The one player that fulfills this role but so many people neglect because of his passing abilities, is Morgan. By far our best ball winner and an aggressive bastard. I can see him growing into a Viera type player as he improves his forward game, probably not quite as good though.
Still a legend and can play too. Perhaps we should add Ambrosini and Seedorf. Look at Scholes last night age by no means is a problem if you still have the vision.
Ps. I thought we were playing in enlightened times not the dinosaur age of muscle football above technique and skill?!
