He's another Hazard in that respect - he may be a good player, but is a massive gamble given a lot of it is based on "potential" and the fee he will command means his resale value is minimal at best. How much of the £21m Betis payed for Denilson did they ever see again?

Arsenal won't be taking a bath on £21.5m for theirs, that's for sure.

I'm absolutely gutted. He's the 1 player this summer I was really hoping we'd sign. That's put me in a foul mood.

    - do we all think that Levy might actually move quickly on players this summer? (like the modric signing) I think Marin will be the first of many that we're going to see snapped up before the euro's, as we all know that the inflated prices after the tournament are inevitable!

We've seriously got to change our transfer negotiation policy very soon, and not wait until the end of August. We could be up sh*t creek otherwise, as levy wont pay over the odds.

Of all the players Chelsea could have signed. Had to be Marin. FFS!

    Very true.
He cost £3.4m and they'll probably get most of that back.
What the **** is he, though?

missed out big time..weird thing is me and you and many others pointed him out as a player we could do with..and now i learn the Bale has been making some noise.....could have cashed in on Bale....Marin would have more than softened the blow!!

we are not behaving keen enough.

The only good thing about Chelsea signing Marin is that it lessens the chance of them signing Modric

What kind of ****e, though? <laugh>

I watched a fair bit of Bremen a couple of years ago, when Ozil was still in the side, in an attacking trio with Marin and Hunt and I thought all three were extremely impressive.
The suggested £8m price tag would suggest that something's gone wrong somewhere with him, though.
I think his contract was running into it's last year, so that could account for it, if it's not anything to do with his contributions on the pitch.

Hoilett would do a similar job and probably cost less, if we could get him.
Out of contract, so a fee would go to a tribunal, but he's being watched by a lot of teams.

    Not sure that's true.
Marin to replace Malouda and Modric to replace Mereiles?

Dona, the minute I saw it on SSN, i was straight on here to tell you and the others who mentioned him also. But as usual, PNP was lightning quick! ;)

My mate just text me about the Bale comments, but I haven't had chance to see them for myself. All the more reason for us to be getting players NOW. I've also just heard that apparently Marin rejected us for Chelsea (sorry if you all know this)

This is where we're really going to see what Levy can pull out of the bag.

At least they're signing players we're interest in, rather than building the team around.

We do need to make some early moves, though - especially in regards to strikers. If we signed somebody who can play in Ade's position quickly (i.e. Cavani, Llorente, Remy) that's one of the major headaches out of the way and without their value being inflated by their performance in the Euros (barring Cavani, obviously) and then we can then start focusing on other areas, be it a second striker (i.e. Leandro, Soldado, whoever) plus additions at centre back and tweaking the midfield and adding some depth to positions where we have none.

Oh, and ship out the dead wood for a change - two strikers and a centre back to go straight into the first team won't come cheap, so getting some money in from sales of Bentley, Jenas and Gomes would help balance the books, or at the very least cover the cost of bringing in squad players to be introduced later in the season.

i'm not that fussed about modric leaving this year WY. with scott parker supporting him in the way he has (which he didnt have last season), I think Modric should have progressed this season, and i personally don't think he has. I've said it in another thread, but he doesn't score enough goals and I believe 40mill is good money for him.

exactly..he will be expecting first team action...and he is going to be well sought after....so that means an unhappy Lennon id say.....unless Bale is to go anyway....who seems to have become quite gobby of late...he was gabbing before the semi final aswell...im surprised nobody around him has pointed out that hes playing crap and needs to get his head down.

Hadn't heard this, but it wouldn't surprise me.
We can't compete with them financially, so it's largely a waste of time going after the same players as them.

    Swansea are 2-0 up already.
Should Wolves just forfeit their remaining games?

Agreed HBIC, only issue we have now is that Llorente has turned a few heads in recent months. we can't sign him under the Radar no more, as there's loads of interest. In my opinion we've lost that one. - again, gutted.

For me, Hazard, Leandro, and Vertonghen are "musts". we have to spend. simple as. it's the only way we progress, because you can bet the teams around us will do so. Liverpool feel their season has been a poor one, so you can bet they'll spend millions again.

If its wages then we may aswell give up talking about the likes of Lioriente,Cavani, Hazard etc as i dont see Marin as being one of the substantial earners at Chelsea....

Insert 'parting the Geordie sea' joke here.

Isn't he out of contract in the summer or something?
