Chelsea fan in peace. Just hearing Portsmouth could be liquidated this summer, their financial troubles are well documented but how would you feel about this? Surely rivalry is part of the sport and in a way Portsmouth are also part of Saints history and vice versa? I don't think I'd wish liquidation on any club bar maybe Liverpool
Most of us don't wish liquidation on anyone, we have a lot of people who have a real hatred of Skates, but they are a minority, it is mostly down to some Blue Numpties who wished us ill will when we were in trouble ourselves, they can never be forgiven. I have always enjoyed the rivalry, but at times it has been difficult to be reasonable. It is not certain that they can survive, but I will regret it if they are liquidated, have to find another rival team to slag off.
By the way District Line, well done on getting to the Champions League final. I honestly thought Barcelona would knock you out and after Terry was sent off I thought it was a matter of how many Barca would get. I hope Madrid get through - that would be a very tasty final!
Don't want them liquidated as I'm sure most of their fans enjoyed our difficulties but wouldn't want us liquidated either. Some enjoyed our problems and now it's come back to bite them, so we should avoid doing the same.
Anyone who hates a football team needs more going on in their life. It's a game, and there a thousands of people in Portsmouth hoping that they'll still get to be a part of the game next season. I wish them all the best, and hope we get to play them soon, because good rivalries are about what happens on the pitch, not between moronic squabbling supporters.
As others have said the vast majority do not want Pompey liquidated. Never have done and never would....yes we will take the micky when they lose just as they have to when we lose. However we do not want them to go out of existance. Again as others have said that applies to any football side. Good result to get into the final...now you gotto win the ruddy thing....good luck in that.
We all have too many old friends as well as lots of new friends who are Pompey fans so it would have to be a really most unkind person to hope they go out of business. However a few years in League One for them will do nicely while we hopefully swagger about in the PL.
hope they survive. i think they might struggle in league one to be honest though after the club gets stripped of anything of value.
Not liquidation, but I think a 10 point deduction is not enough punishment for a team that has treated their creditors very badly, bearing in mind that they aren't all mega rich companies but include local businesses, charities etc. They have still been paying some players ridiculous salaries and are more in debt than they were when then got their last CVA.
What have you guys got against Liverpool? I don't understand but we know about your dislike of Tottenham, West Ham and Millwall, how much you guys like Arsenal but what is it with Liverpool? You'll be meeting them on the tube, buses, in car parks - everywhere in a couple of weeks! Think you owe each other a bit of respect!
The derbies with p*mpey create an absolutely cracking atmosphere, so for that alone I really want them to survive. In fact this may be a bit odd, but I would prefer it if they were in the same division as us, so long as they never, ever finish above us again.
Was thinking earlier just how similar their situation is to ours a few seasons back They, as us were relegated still with a game remaining, that game in both cases away to nott'm forest As we had they will have a long struggle over the summer were there is a genuine chance of becoming extinct. I doubt they will make it to august though, we survived due to the fanbase and the infrastructure that pompey simply don't have
Depends if you differentiate between liquidation and disappearing completely. I don't think many people would be too sad to see them go if someone created a pheonix club like they did with Wimbledon or Aldershot.
Liquidation won't make much difference to the rivalry. Their fans would start a new club in non league football and that club would become Southampton's new rival. Albeit any new Pompey wouldn't have any claim to the history of the old club as it would be a completely new entity. Considering what Pompey have done as a company, liquidation is deserved. Their 2010 CVA wasn't met, they now need a new CVA in 2012. Even if they do survive next season to play in League One, they will likely be doing so with a huge points penalty for a) not meeting the 2010 CVA and possibly b) not agreeing a 2012 CVA.
