People have been talking about this quite a lot on here, but isn't it a bit of a chimera? In reality, aren't most of the players outside the top few clubs simply skilful players who will make it in a good team but fail in a bad one? Take a few stars out of the picture - Aguero, Silva, Yaya Toure, Van Persie, etc - players who are out of our range, but equally out of range for almost every other team in the Prem - and I don't think there's that much difference between the rest.

Re. recent posts on other threads, why are Barton, SWP, Cisse etc any more 'premiership quality' than Pilkington or Eliot Bennett?

In the end, it's a team game, and we've survived comfortably because of the quality AND ATTITUDE of our squad. THEY are 'proven Premiership quality players' now (if the term actually means anything) and we should be incredibly proud of them.

totally agree. its a made up term which pundits use to verify why they think a certain team will be relegated. unfortunately, some fans have cottoned on to it and use it themselves, thinking its justified. most bizarre comment this season was when shearer said that he feared for newcastle early in the season cos they had little premier league experience. what?! so just cos their players spent one year outside the top flight they lack experience??? or cos they're french they aren't good players??? stupid! he even admitted he hadn't heard of players like cabaye - he won the league in france for pities sake!!

On a more serious note, there seems to be some pretty good players coming out of france again now and maybe we should hire a scout to go out there and find us a bargain like a cabeye or ben arfa <ok> Also african players are having a growing reputation!

It's about as meaningless as those other MotD favourite phrases 'International Experience' or 'England's Golden Generation' <doh>

good outside bet to win euro12 france - gone under the radar a bit as everyone talks about spain, netherlands and the germans. france have been unbeaten for about two years now and have won away to germany <ok>

I hope we don't scout at Euro 2012. Players who do well there go for inflated fees. I do think we may see a few more foreign players next year though
